Coach Lovie Smith revealed Monday that Burkhead has entered the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.

If Burkhead is unable to pass the protocol prior to facing the Browns in Week 13, Dare Ogunbowale and Eno Benjamin will both be candidates to fill Burkhead's usual change-of-pace role behind Dameon Pierce.
