Gordon, who is awaiting word from the NFL on his appeal of a potential year-long suspension, is slated to see his share of action in Saturday's preseason opener against the Lions, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "I think we'll mix him in," coach Mike Pettine said Wednesday. "I wouldn't be surprised to see him out there some with the ones, some with the twos and maybe, even into the second half." Meanwhile, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer suggests that the Browns are preparing themselves for at least an eight-game suspension for Gordon, but that's portrayed by the report as a best-case scenario, which the team isn't counting on. In any case, until the league's ruling is handed down, Gordon will be able to continue to practice and suit up for preseason action.

Why didnt they teach Ray Rice a lesson? The only difference is that Gordon is great and Rice SUCKS

Ghost_Lombardi Wed 8/6/14 5:29 PM

I have to admit I would find it somewhat amusing if he tore an ACL and had to miss the year anyway.

MichaelDavis Wed 8/6/14 5:39 PM

Okay, thats funny but not right. I think that the year suspension should stand and maybe he will teach him a valuable lesson.

Beardcules Wed 8/6/14 6:06 PM

I don't care of he learns his lesson or not. I don't care what stupid decisions he makes. I just want him to get me fantasy points. Why care about anything else? Lol

MichaelDavis Wed 8/6/14 6:20 PM

Because if he learns his lesson, he will actually get you more fantasy points because he won't be suspended as much.

[Deleted User] Wed 8/6/14 6:38 PM

I don't really get why they would play him at this point. Might as well get a longer look at the cast of characters that are supposed to be wr's, you already know what you have with him when he's on the field.

Mrcook Wed 8/6/14 10:27 PM

Ray rice needs a longer suspension. Gordon needs the same. Enough with this guy gets 2 games or 3 games or a year. You break the leagues rules then you 6 games. I am even a browns fan. If you break them twice then u get a year. Bye!! Your a freaking idiot to continue to break the rules to the people who pay you.

MichaelDavis Thu 8/7/14 5:33 AM

Ray Rice, I think his suspension wasn't as long because its not an ongoing thing, he should have gotten 4 games but 2, I hope he doesn't do it again. Gordon, I hope he gets on the right track and stop the weed, its causing him to get suspended and lose money and do what he loves to do. If he gets busted for drugs one more time, I think he should be banned from the NFL because then he would have made it clear that he will never learn his lesson.

Mrcook Thu 8/7/14 6:27 AM

Mike I Totally agree

joegibbskins07 Thu 8/7/14 8:15 AM

as much as i think RR should have a longer suspension, this is not about RR. its about JG and his repeated drug offenses. If you want to work for my company, you need to remain drug free. if you wanna play in the NFL, you need to remain drug free. if you want to do drugs, get a job as a residential construction worker. no offence to the workers.

RJ2000 Thu 8/7/14 11:38 AM

Who gives a sh*t if you are on drugs... Do you perform at your job? Thats all people should care about. What he does in his own time is his own business. No one (including the government) should be able to tell anyone other wise. The NFL (and other companies) get lower insurance rates and tax bonuses for doing drug testing. It's always traced back to money 99% of the time

[Deleted User] Thu 8/7/14 11:54 AM

The Federal and State governments care as well as the National Football League that's who.

The reasoning why or what it '"should" be aren't valid for the arguments about the suspension. That is a different argument, the legality concerns over Pot. That is not what the NFL is in charge of controlling, they are following the rules they have in place that every player knows and has agreed to.

Ghost_Lombardi Thu 8/7/14 11:56 AM

They know when they are getting tested. And for what. The stupid is breath taking.

RJ2000 Thu 8/7/14 4:00 PM

@Jynxed. The only reason they care is for the money it saves/costs them. They don't give a crap about the game, integrity, or player's health. All they care about is the bottom line.. which is why this whole thing is a joke.

joegibbskins07 Thu 8/7/14 4:26 PM

and the players know and agree to the rules when they sign the contract so the real joke is on the players that dont follow the rules. all the debatable reasons on why the rules are in place is totally irrelevant, this is a breach of contract.

as for the argument about it being about the bottom line, outside of non-profits, name a company that does not care about the bottom line. people and companies are in business to make a profit. period.

Quick point assault and battery and aggravated assault AND domestic violence is a FELONY! Weed is legal in 12 states and a misdemeanor if caught with under an ounce. Just another governing body doing a horrible job. If it's crack, coke, herroin. ...etc then year long suspension for sure. Alcohol is a he'll of a lot worse than weed. Fact. Horrible job NFL.

joegibbskins07 Fri 8/8/14 8:09 AM

agreed but not the point nor is it the defense that can be used in an appeal. there are some over the counter drugs that these guys cant put into their body as well. they are legal nationwide but are against the NFL rules.

again, whats legal and whats not legal has nothing to do with the NFL and its rules. Gordon broke the rules, risked his career and millions of dollars. don't blame the NFL for his poor choices.

[Deleted User] Fri 8/8/14 9:42 AM

Sigh....Weed is illegal federally, states do not matter for stuff like this and probably never will. Again it's the wrong argument to make.

As Joe said the rules are there and he is a habitual offender. Obviously Ray's crime seems worse and the NFL should have a stronger policy in place for it but it's just how the rules are right now.

joegibbskins07 Fri 8/8/14 11:02 AM

if Ray was found guilty, the NFL punishment would probably been more severe. but he married her and law says the states cant force a spouse to testify against their better half so without here, the state really had very little to go on. did he drag her by her hair? yes. and maybe she liked it and wanted him to do it.

Should the NFL have went further? Probably. But they have guidelines to go by that are spelled out in the CBA. Goodells hands are tied and if he over stepped his authority, the Players Union would have flipped out and won, despite public opinion.

there is a lot more to the stories than these rotoworld blurbs.

[Deleted User] Fri 8/8/14 11:06 AM

Exactly, everyone gets so hung up on what they think is right and wrong and while they may have a point there are a lot of moving parts with the NFL due to the CBA.

joegibbskins07 Fri 8/8/14 11:11 AM

and Jynxed, the state laws do matter. the constitution was set up to have state laws trump federal laws. so in Colorado, the feds are not going after the pot shops. they could but the local and state departments can not unless state laws are broken. notice the feds are staying clear of the state laws. ways the feds can force states to comply is by taking funding away from states, very similar to an economic embargo. part of the reason the feds have not done this is because of the thing that budsal hates.... money. they are making a fortune in taxes. so see budsal, the money issue works in both directions. the other reason the feds have stayed away is because they chose to let the social experiment play out. if it dont work, they say "told you so" and will help clean it up. if it works, they make bank in the form of taxes but also uphold the trafficking laws.

and thats whats up. enjoy your day.

[Deleted User] Fri 8/8/14 11:41 AM

I more mean in terms of the NFL, obviously the states and individuals can "break" federal law in these cases but I don't think that would work for the NFL because it's not legal Federally. I guess maybe it was legal in all states?

joegibbskins07 Fri 8/8/14 12:14 PM

honestly, it wont matter. there are legal products that are banned from the NFL. If they dont want it in their organisation, they can ban it. i think what makes a difference here is that its the players body's that is the product, the tools. my company hired me for my trade skills and brains but some of the things banned in the NFL would not give me a competitive edge in my workplace so no ban is in place. they players cant injest things that give them a phisical edge over others. i know this has nothing to do with weed but weed is banned by my company for just the opposite reason. it gives me a disadvantage. plus the small insurance discounts and our employers also demand a drug free workplace and so on.

pretty deep subject.

BWilliams89 Fri 8/8/14 3:06 PM

A nanogram above the limit could possibly be second hand smoke. It's not like he was so over the limit. He passed one level but was a nanogram above on the other. There's a chance of being out the year and there's a chance of getting away with nothing. It's hard to believe being suspended the whole year. I traded tavon for Gordon in my keeper league with this being his last on contract but plan to franchise him. Everyone's calling me retarded but nobody even really knows what he's gonna get. Everyone's thinking the year but more than likely it's farfetched. I don't see ray rice getting a year and there was proof of him assulting his now wife. Dragging her by her hair it was on video. I see maybe 4 weeks at max 8

joegibbskins07 Fri 8/8/14 3:48 PM

Ray already got 2 weeks and the state dismissed the charges.
