Freeman's touch total in 2016 could decrease in order to keep him fresher and also get Tevin Coleman more involved in the Falcons' offense, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Freeman narrowly trailed Coleman on the Falcons' depth chart going into last season, but after the then-rookie broke his ribs in Week 2, Freeman fully capitalized on his newfound starting opportunity, finishing with 1,634 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns. While that production earned Freeman fantasy fame and a Pro Bowl selection, Falcons running back coach Bobby Turner recently revealed the team's backfield could further improve by getting Coleman more involved. With obvious big-play potential, Coleman showed flashes during his 12-game first season, and with better health and ball security, could cut into Freeman's snaps this season, making Atlanta's backfield situation worthwhile to monitor once again going into the upcoming campaign.
Stupid. The dude went off last year. Give him the most of the load and If he doesn't perform then cut into his time. The dude tried to prove his worth. Now you want to cut him Back. I hate teams that do this crap.
he fizzled out after week 8 last year. probably not all his fault but it left the team with something to think about. this thread did not say he lost his starting job, just said they "could" decrease the number of touches in an effort to keep him fresh. pretty much every team says this in the offseason anyway.
Just a flip side of things, Coleman was deemed the starter prior to the start of the season last year and lost it due to injury in week 2. the kid has talent and was originally drafted to replace Freeman in the first place. so if giving Coleman an extra series or two help Freeman from fizzling out and will improve the team as a whole, then do it.
