Elam injured his knee in the second week of the preseason, requiring a clean-up surgery that wasn't expected to end his season. Although he should be healthy before the end of the year, Elam may stay on IR through the end of the season, as he was merely competing for backup role prior to getting injured. The 32nd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft has been either ineffective, injured or benched throughout his rookie contract.
