Dolphins released CB Richard Marshall. Another cog of GM Jeff Ireland's two-year masterplan down the drain. The move clears $4.55 million in salary. Overpaid to the tune of a three-year, $16 million contract in 2012, Marshall was limited to just four games by a back injury last season. Those are four games for which he was paid over $5 million. Marshall is hard-nosed and versatile, but was miscast as an outside starter. Ireland's admission of defeat is made more stunning by the fact that he has no clear alternative opposite Brent Grimes. Perhaps Ireland is ready to throw second-rounder Jamar Taylor into the fire, but career slot-man Dimitri Patterson is the best bet.
