WR WAS (12)

McLaurin touched on the situation surrounding his current contract Tuesday, stating "without any progression discussions (with the Commanders), it's kind of hard to see how I step on the field," John Keim of ESPN.com reports. "I've been pretty frustrated, not gonna lie," McLaurin added. "Everything that has transpired has been pretty disappointing. I want to continue my career here."
EDGE Analysis
McLaurin skipped Washington's mandatory minicamp in mid-June after previously being in attendance for the early stages of the offseason program. Since then, he indicated that his reps and the team haven't had any new talks to address the fact that he's set to play out the final year of the three-year extension that he signed in June 2022, which has an average annual value of $23.2 million. After the Jets' Garrett Wilson inked an extension of his own Monday, McLaurin currently ranks 17th among NFL WRs in terms of AAV. McLaurin has put together five consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns and recorded a career-best 13 touchdown catches in 17 regular-season games while working with standout rookie QB Jayden Daniels in 2024, but the veteran wideout also turns 30 years old in September, so it's unclear how a new deal may be structured, assuming the two sides resume their back-and-forth. Commanders veterans report to training camp next Tuesday, July 22, at which point McLaurin's stance could become more solidified.

Can’t see himself stepping on the field for $25,000,000?

Boy needs glasses!

johnwhichello Tue 7/15/25 6:51 PM

I know right! He will get a new contract but now if I were Wash I would look to trade him and hopefully find a market! Get high draft picks cause there are some good ones coming.

ROMULUS Tue 7/15/25 7:38 PM

deebo samuels probably didnt help his negotiating team...

joegibbskins07 Tue 7/15/25 7:39 PM

I will be honest, five 1,000 yard seasons is great and last year was fantastic but on most other teams in the NFL, he would slide in as a #2. I will give him credit though, last year was an amazing year.

ROMULUS Tue 7/15/25 8:42 PM

all ya have to do is go to the waiver wire (players list),change the setting to all instead of free agents and look to c where he is on the list.... he might b a late 2nd rnd pick in some leagues, but most likely hes a 6th rnd pick - in redraft leagues...

AVCosmo Tue 7/15/25 9:13 PM

Play for the contract you signed. Wish there was a way to lock him up and not pay him. smh

JRZDEVIL Tue 7/15/25 9:17 PM

1000/17 games is less than 60 yards per game. We need to measure wr differently since nfl added 3 regular season games over the years. 1300 yards would be about 75/ game. That would show top talent rather than mid level talent.

ROMULUS Tue 7/15/25 9:30 PM

play for the contract u signed or play like the contract u signed?

DickyMac Tue 7/15/25 9:51 PM

Scary Terry is a top 10 WR. Pay the man!

ROMULUS Tue 7/15/25 10:01 PM

good, but top 10? may #11 in the NFC... maybe #20 in the NFL.... his 90+ yard TD with less then 2 minutes in the 4rth against dallas was a total nightmare he doesnt wanna talk about- they missed the xtra point...

JRZDEVIL Tue 7/15/25 10:33 PM

He’s making $25 mil when he decides to step on the field. That is getting paid. It’s natural to want more but he signed for $25 mil and should honor his signature. He should’ve signed a shorter term contract last time if he wants free agency sooner. Ask for 30 next year and leave to a club agrees you’re worth it. Blame your agent and your greed last time for this contract. Outplay your contract this year and earn a larger deal.

Ch3m1zt26 Tue 7/15/25 11:18 PM

because 25 million a year is not enough to live I guess? Imagine the people that work 9-5's, have two jobs and have to pay $500 tickets to watch these ppl play?

I understand wanting more if you are underpaid, but damn at 25M you are not terribly underpaid ffs

ROMULUS Tue 7/15/25 11:19 PM

he just wants to get that next deal done now before washington runs out of cap room.... what do u not think hes worth it? ya wanna take him to the prom or not?

DickyMac Tue 7/15/25 11:56 PM

His kids eat es cargo and caviar for breakfast. Show me the money!

ROMULUS Wed 7/16/25 12:03 AM

NFL is a short career and the stock market is unpredictable....

joegibbskins07 Wed 7/16/25 4:48 AM

Stock market has its ups and downs but always goes up in the end. But yeah, we see 30 year old's looking for their last contract payday but that's actually more rare than the norm. We just think its the norm because its names we know. I hope he stays with the skins but also hope he does not turn into a diva over one excellent year. 25m is about right for him, doubt any other team will offer up more when WR's seem to grow on trees.

DickyMac Wed 7/16/25 10:25 AM

Luke McCaffrey any good?

Ch3m1zt26 Wed 7/16/25 4:56 PM

when these players do a contract following their rookie contract, doesn't their agent present the contract the player wants - having already implemented in the numbers the outlook consideration of the value of the position? for example why sign a 5, 7, 10 year contract if the market at that position fluctuates? technically these players and agents are lying to teams with those contracts to get "guaranteed" money up front, then come back next year two with years still left in the contract to say "oh look player A and B got such money, my client now wants about the same or more" that is moral-less behavior. I mean I am sure these dudes have bad ass females around them that they need to pamper, also the clothes, the chains, the cars, the parties, the strip clubs, buying mansions. If not I don't see how a 25M contraction is not enough to get you through this year and then if you ball out you can maybe come back the next year to renegotiate your contract you signed just two seasons ago.

If I was a team owner or GM, I'd be like okay so you don't want to warrant/fulfill the contract you just signed? okay so you want 50M for every season for the next 5 years? okay let's do it, but the guaranteed money is going to be very short, meaning you are going to have to earn the rest of those contracts dollars by playing and you are likely not going to renegotiate the annual salary.

by the way Dak Prescott makes SIXTY MIL for the next four years, so I understand even a dressing room janitor wanting a pay raise too.

I personally feel when players are making big bags already and want more bags it is because they financially they are nose-diving, because at the end of the day people that never had just go bonkers crazy when they get some dollars, to ultimately come back to the same ole. You can take the person out the environment but you cant take the engraved DNA out of them .... catch me? McLaurin is good player but I think he's jealous of Daniels contract or going for broke

ROMULUS Wed 7/16/25 5:22 PM

some millionaires buy bonds, gold and real estate... some build gymnasiums at their old college... some end up sleeping in bus stops (google center mike webster, 4 time super bowl winner with the F-ing steelers in the 70s)....

theres an old saying... ask for what u want and negotiate from there....owners still make 3 times the entire team salary cap per year....

besides there r some owners who would introduce u 2 their niece if u won them a super bowl...

joegibbskins07 Wed 7/16/25 8:50 PM

everyone around them are making bank and they are the product so for top tier players, I have nothing against them going for the money when they have a job that rarely get a 3rd bite of the apple. You are what you negotiate. Thinking players are greedy because we would kill for that kind of money is false. Why do we not call the owners greedy? the ones that cheap out on the team, loses top talent left and right and the product is trash. If I had 3 chances in life to earn a mega contract, then I am all in and would do just like them, put my body on the line and go for the money while I can.

JRZDEVIL Wed 7/16/25 9:48 PM

No prob with athletes going for it in free agency. Holding out while being handsomely paid while under contract he negotiated and agreed to is my beef. Negotiate shorter terms and sacrifice the security of longer deal. Or go for longer deal and don’t bitch when the market edges above your negotiated deal. Man up and either honor your signed contract or bet on your health on shorter higher paid deal. Leave it on the field.

ROMULUS Wed 7/16/25 10:00 PM

sometimes u have to take what they offer... other times they have to give what u request... if u take a hometown discount just to get on the field to show what u bring to the table (Rocky 1), the next time give him more money (Rockt 2).... pay me, play me or trade me....

true one needs to remember the stress level of the bean counters in the front office... they worked tirelessly for the perfect salary cap balance and u just screwed them with a holdout... thats y zeke and dlaw r no longer cowboys (2019)... u can get away with a lot of sh*t when yer 27 and just made the pro bowl... but when u hit 30, all that baggage comes back on ya... so owner and worker nerd to think about life before inking a contract....

joegibbskins07 Thu 7/17/25 4:11 AM

He skipped a minicamp, I hardly consider that a holdout. Other than that he just voiced displeasure with the process. Players always ask for an extension going into their final year, nothing new. Its called doing business and I can promise you that if you had that kind of god given talent and facing the wrong side of 30, you would be negotiating in the final year of your contract too. Did he demand a trade? Nope. Did he skip all of the voluntary minicamps? Nope. Is he saying he will not report to training camp? Nope. Does he deserve an extension? Yup. Does he want to stay a redskin? Yup. So whats the issue again? Oh, he HAS to wait for his contract to expire….. since when??

Skins have the cap room so its not a situation that they cant afford him, the question is what they value him at. He aims high, they aim low and in the end, they meet in the middle. Cowboys is a master class of how to massively over pay. zek was an idiot by skipping the whole offseason and preseason and he and the cowboys sucked balls ever since. Scary Terry has done none of those things.

ROMULUS Thu 7/17/25 10:34 AM

actually the holdout thing was for all players and owners.... zeke was an idiot and currently the 29 year old never injured back is a FA...i guess jerry didn't like it when he said he would accept the 5th year option and 2 weeks later held out.... other owners dosnt like that either.... this is also the year where the projected #3 draft pick fell to the 5th rnd....
