Crumedy sustained a high-ankle sprain in Thursday's 17-3 preseason loss to the Patriots, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Crumedy was carted off the field in the second quarter and finished the contest without recording a tackle. Given the severity of the injury, the rookie sixth-round pick will likely be unavailable for the last two games of the preseason and could be in jeopardy of missing the Panthers' regular-season opener against the Saints on Sept. 8. That opens the door for LaBryan Ray, Junior Aho and Jayden Peevy to play more snaps and compete for a depth spot at defensive end behind starters A'Shawn Robinson and Derrick Brown.
