Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reiterated Monday that Smith would remain the team's starting quarterback Week 13 against the Jets, Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star reports. "Alex is my guy," Reid said.
EDGE Analysis
The Chiefs took their fifth loss in six games -- including their third in a row -- Sunday against the Bills, with Smith submitting another lackluster outing (23-for-36 for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception) in the process. Though first-round pick Patrick Mahomes could be the long-term heir to the starting role, it appears Reid isn't eager to turn to the inexperienced rookie while the Chiefs still maintain a one-game lead in the AFC West. Smith, who completed a remarkable 76.6 percent of his passes while throwing 11 touchdowns against no interceptions during the Chiefs' 5-0 start, has since taken a dramatic step back, but hasn't been completely disastrous during the 1-5 slide. He's posted a 63 percent completion rate, 7.0 yards per attempt, eight touchdowns and four picks over the past six contests.

The problem is the play calling so this response by Reid doesn't surprise me. Now, if he is telling Smith to throw the ball down the field and he continues his dink dunk garbage, then Reid is a fool for continuing forward with Alex. Either way, the coach is at fault here... needs to change the play calling or pull Smith. If neither changes occur the Chargers will win the division as they are the only team playing competitive football right now. Makes me sick to watch this demise as a diehard Chief's fan.

RP65 that's a perfect analysis of what is going on in KC. It looks like the play calling but you do see players coming open down field (ie; Kelce down the middle on Smith's last pick or Hill 2 games ago) and Smith is just not taking the shot. I know it seemed like Smith didn't have a lot of time in the pocket this last game but you don't help yourself with 15 step drops. I've been a staunch supporter of Smith and the beginning of this year was great to see but Alex looks like he's regressed even further to the point he's scared to pull the trigger at all.

Totally agree with what you say here. It's been hard to watch them play the past few weeks. Lets just hope they somehow pull it together before it's too late. I'm not confident.

As a niners fan it is Alex smith he is not a winner and cannot win the big games never had never will

Chiefs19-22-23 Thu 11/30/17 8:58 AM

LOL!! Alex was programmed by your 49ers to not make even one mistake because it would cost them the game. You can't tell me Alex isn't better than Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer or Doug Williams or... Every time I hear a 49ers fan complain about Alex Smith all I hear is someone squashing grapes and I reach for some cheese for them.

I was spoiled got to watch Montana and young smith is not them lol. When game on the line always chokes misses wide open receiver throws a pick etc just watch December is here.

:) Your talking about two Hall of Fame QBs and I think there is less than 40 in the hall. That's an unfair comparison and yes you were spoiled. LOL!! In Kansas City, things have been a bit different than Smith's career was in San Fran. Same system not a new one every year, can make a mistake and not cost his team the game and even then his mistakes a very few and far between. That's actually been most Chiefs fans biggest complaint with Smith is that he won't take that chance and make that mistake. What is his record now including this season 47-25 since he joined the Chiefs. I'll take 10 wins seasons all day long but I wish he would take that chance and throw that possible pick or miss that open WR. Even that pick against the Bills, I'm okay with trying to make the play. I'd rather that than watching a sack or the ball being thrown away.

That is what I mean you hold your breath when he throws downfield when Joe cool and young did you knew it be on target when smith gets flustered he never comes out of it last week he overthrew the rbs twice they need To get running game going again and he can get Kelce targets. He had gore in SF he just can't make the big plays
