Brent was reinstated by the Cowboys, but will have to serve a 10-game suspension before he's able to play, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Brent initially chose to retire last summer following the December 2012 charge of intoxication manslaughter he faced for the death of teammate Jerry Brown, but he decided to continue his career after serving jail time and completing a rehab program. He won't be completely absolved from his off-field turmoil, however, as the Cowboys will not even allow Brent to return to team facilities until after Week 6 of the season. Furthermore, any other alcohol-related incidents Brent may partake in will likely result in a permanent ban from playing in the NFL. Considering all the black marks on his record as well as his extensive time away from the game, it may be difficult for Brent to reemerge as an NFL-caliber player.
