According to the Wsahington Examiner, the Redskins had interest in free agent Kyle Orton when he was waived by Denver last November. The Redskins didn't put in a waiver claim because of the salary implications and potential for locker-room "friction" with Rex Grossman. While he'd be an upgrade on Grossman for 2012, the Redskins would likely view Orton as more of a stopgap solution while grooming a rookie. It would make some sense for Washington to sign Orton in free agency before drafting a quarterback in April. Particularly if the rookie isn't selected at No. 6 overall.
