49ers released RB Brandon Jacobs. Just in time for him not to be able to sign with anybody for the stretch run. Jacobs was suspended, essentially for insubordination, for the final three weeks of the season. Technically, Jacobs can sign with playoff teams, but he won't generate any interest. The 30-year-old eight-year veteran couldn't get on the field for the 49ers this season, and rushed just five times for seven yards when he did. Jacobs is near, if not at, the end.
