The Bears cut Weems on Saturday. Weems signed a three-year deal with the Bears prior to the 2012 season, catching just three passes for 35 yards since then. He also failed to make an impact as a returner, returning just 18 kickoffs for 288 yards. Unless he convinces a team that he can regain his form as the high level kick and punt returner he was in Atlanta in 2010, Weems might struggle to find work.

Weems didn't see a target in the passing game during Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars. With Marquess Wilson likely to miss the first few weeks with a broken collarbone, Weems is among the group of receivers who could be counted upon to replace his production. Free agent signing Josh Morgan appears to be the likeliest candidate to see work in three-receiver sets, but Weems will still have a great chance at clinching a roster spot due to his prowess on special teams coverage units.

Bears WR Eric Weems has agreed to a pay cut. Weems will reduce his 2014 base salary from $1 million to $730,000, which is the six-year veteran minimum. A pure special teams player, Weems is a candidate to replace Devin Hester on kick returns.

Bears WR Eric Weems has declined to take a pay cut, and is expected to be released. Weems would rather shop his wares on the open market than take a cut, though at this point, the money difference is likely to be minimal. Cutting Weems would clear $1.1 million in cap space for the Bears.

The Bears have asked WR Eric Weems to take a pay cut or he'll be released. Weems is a pure special teamer and could be an option to replace Devin Hester as the return man. He's scheduled to count $1.6 million against the cap in the final year of his deal. The Bears could save $1.1 million with Weems' release.

Bears WR Eric Weems has replaced Devin Hester as the team's primary kick returner. Hester is out for Week 13 with a concussion, but Weems would have handled return duties either way. Hester is averaging 25.5 yards per return this season but only has a long return of 38 yards. Weems was sent to the Pro Bowl in 2010 as a return man with the Falcons.

Bears agreed to terms with WR/KR Eric Weems, formerly of the Falcons, on a three-year contract. At first glance, it's an odd fit with Devin Hester locked in on punt returns. Weems has been an All-Pro special teamer in the past, but he has just 24 receptions in 54 career games. The move suggests the Bears can't count on Johnny Knox for kickoff returns in 2012. Either that, or new GM Phil Emery will listen to offers for Hester.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution expects the Falcons to elevate WR/KR Eric Weems to No. 3 receiver if free agent Harry Douglas is not re-signed. It would be quite a leap for the former undrafted free agent, who has made just 24 catches in 54 career games since coming into the league in 2008. It's ultimately doubtful the 2010 All Pro special teamer is given a significant role on offense.

Coach Mike Smith revealed that WR/KR Eric Weems had a knee surgery this offseason. Smith described the surgery as a "a little procedure," suggesting that it may have been arthroscopic in nature. The Falcons re-signed Weems to a one-year contract last week. He'll be fine to return kicks in Week 1.

Falcons re-signed WR/KR Eric Weems. A Pro Bowl returner last season, Weems has never made an impact on offense. There's a slight chance he'll get a few more looks in 2011 after the Falcons parted ways with Michael Jenkins on Friday, but Julio Jones' presence should likely ensure Weems' contributions remain limited to special teams.
