ESPN's Ed Werder reports the Chiefs are expecting Dwayne Bowe (questionable, groin) to play in Week 8 against the Browns. Bowe missed Friday's practice after suffering a mid-week groin injury and will be a game-time decision. Even if he manages to play, he'll be limited by Joe Haden in coverage. Bowe is coming off a season high five catches for 66 yards, but is just a low-end WR4 this week.

Dwayne Bowe (groin) missed Chiefs practice Friday after being "limited" in Thursday's session. The chain of events suggests Bowe got hurt in Thursday's workout, and was too banged up to participate Friday. His status is now in doubt for Week 8 against the Browns, not that it changes the outlook of any worthwhile fantasy contributors. Donnie Avery could conceivably wind up drawing more of Joe Haden's coverage if Bowe doesn't play. Bowe has been a WR5 in fantasy to this point.

Dwayne Bowe was added to the Chiefs' Thursday injury report with a groin issue, getting in a limited session. It appears the WR4/5 suffered the injury in Thursday's practice. For now, he should be considered fine for Week 8, but his Friday status will be key.

Dwayne Bowe caught three passes for 46 yards in Kansas City's Week 6 win over the Raiders. Same as it ever was. Bowe was targeted only four times as Alex Smith refused to challenge more than 5-10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Bowe now has just 20 catches for 229 yards and two touchdowns through six games, and hasn't posted more than 58 yards all season. His fantasy value is in ruins. Bowe will be a low-end WR4 against the Texans in Week 7.

According to SI's Greg Bedard, Dwayne Bowe has been a "big problem" for the Chiefs because he's no longer able to beat man coverage. Bedard is plugged-in around the NFL and does his own film reviews. "Not sure what has happened to him," writes Bedard, "but he lacks explosion and can't beat man coverage anymore. Defenses don't fear him at all." We personally haven't noticed anything different about Bowe this season, other than the fact that Alex Smith isn't even trying to get the ball outside the hashmarks. Still, it's a noteworthy take from a pretty trusted observer.

Dwayne Bowe caught one pass for four yards in Kansas City's Week 3 win over the Eagles Bowe drew just four targets. Twitter was fixin' to send out a search party before noodle-armed QB Alex Smith finally found his No. 1 receiver on the Chiefs' second drive of the fourth quarter. Perhaps Bowe was well covered, but by far the biggest factor behind his near doughnut was Smith's complete unwillingness to throw the ball more than five yards down the field, or into tight coverage. It's become a running theme through the Chiefs' 3-0 start, with Bowe snagging a grand total of nine passes for 90 yards and one touchdown. He's drawn all of 15 targets. It stands to reason the Chiefs are going to start forcing the issue with their $56 million man, but for now he can't be trusted as more than a middling WR3.

Dwayne Bowe caught four passes for 30 yards in the Chiefs' Week 1 win over the Jaguars. Bowe tied for the team lead with six targets, but he didn't a pass come his way until there was 2:47 left in the first half. FB Anthony Sherman actually led the Chiefs in receiving. That's how much checking down Alex Smith was doing. Bowe had promised that the Chiefs would take shots downfield, but it didn't happen in the opener. We're comfortable with Bowe as a WR2. He should see more than six targets most weeks.

Dwayne Bowe caught six passes for 73 yards in Saturday's third preseason game against the Steelers. Bowe also committed his customary drop. The grabs were his first of the preseason. Bowe displayed some uncharacteristic toughness, making a number of catches in traffic, but it was largely a result of Alex Smith struggling to find him downfield. Smith rarely looked beyond the Steelers' linebackers. Bowe promised "Bombs Over Baghdad" earlier in camp, but it's going to be unlikely with Smith at the helm. Bowe is a middle-of-the-road WR2.

New Chiefs QB Alex Smith has "hardly looked downfield" through two preseason games. The Kansas City Star says Dwayne Bowe has zero targets, although we charted him with one. It fell incomplete. Smith's unwillingness to challenge at the intermediate and vertical levels shouldn't be surprising because he's never done it in his pro career. It's a concern for Bowe's fantasy value. Michael Crabtree experienced Smith's limiting effect for many years in San Francisco.
