The Boston Herald has already anointed 2013 third-round pick Duron Harmon the Patriots' starting strong safety. Last year's 91st overall pick, Harmon has outplayed Pat Chung and Tavon Wilson, who weren't likely to be strong competitors in the first place. Harmon held his own on roughly 430 snaps as a rookie, and will line up opposite FS Devin McCourty in New England's rebuilt secondary, with Darrelle Revis at corner.

Duron Harmon has been running as the starting strong safety at Patriots OTAs. After the Patriots released Steve Gregory, the starting job next to FS Devin McCourty had Harmon's name on it. Tavon Wilson, Patrick Chung, and Logan Ryan are the competition. Harmon started three games as a rookie last season and didn't embarrass himself. He showed a nose for the ball with two picks.

Following the release of Steve Gregory, Duron Harmon is penciled in as the favorite to be the Patriots starting strong safety. Harmon was the 91st pick in last April's draft but was thought to be nothing more than a late-round prospect. He ended up playing 433 defensive snaps as a rookie, contributing 31 tackle and two interceptions while receiving positive marks in coverage from PFF. Harmon will face competition for the job.

Patriots agreed to terms with No. 91 overall pick S Duron Harmon on a four-year contract. Considered one of the biggest reaches of the draft, Harmon was typically projected as a day-three pick. According to NFL Draft Insider Tony Pauline, the Patriots' scouts were "overruled" by Bill Belichick on the Rutgers product. Competing for snaps behind Adrian Wilson, Devin McCourty, Steve Gregory and Tavon Wilson, Harmon will likely be limited to special teams as a rookie, though anything is possible in New England.

According to NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline, the Patriots' scouts were "overruled" and the brain trust "made the choice" when New England selected S Duron Harmon with the No. 91 overall pick. In other words, Bill Belichick loved Harmon while his scouts didn't. Pauline wrote that "no one I spoke with" thought Harmon would be a top-100 pick before the draft. New England selected him at No. 91 overall. Pauline also reports there was "a lot of disagreement" over the Patriots' second-round selection of OLB Jamie Collins. "Many" Pats scouts graded Collins as a "last-day pick."
