James underwent X-rays on his wrist following the Chargers' 29-27 win over the Dolphins on Sunday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

The good news for the veteran safety is that the results came back negative. James is by no means in the clear when it comes to playing Sunday against the Colts, so his practice participation over the coming week will shed light on his chances of suiting up. Tony Jefferson and rookie sixth-rounder RJ Mickens would be candidates to start at safety alongside Elijah Molden if James is not given the green light to play.

James notched five tackles (one solo) and an interception Sunday in a 29-27 win over the Dolphins.

James' pickoff came on the final play of the game when Tua Tagovailoa attempted to complete a desperation pass. The interception was James' first of the season. The veteran safety has now recorded at least one pickoff in five consecutive campaigns.

James recorded three total tackles (two solo) in Sunday's 27-10 loss to Washington.

James was rather quiet in Week 5, compiling a season-low three takedowns in the defeat. James recorded eight tackles (four solo) and 0.5 sacks in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Giants.

EDGE Analysis

James has played every defensive snap this season and has at least seven combined tackles in every contest. He also continues to be used aggressively as a pass rusher, already recording 1.5 sacks through four contests.

James logged 12 tackles (10 solo), including 1.0 sacks, during the Chargers' 23-20 win over the Chargers on Sunday.

EDGE Analysis

No other Chargers defender had more than four tackles in Sunday's win, and James was tied with Alex Singleton for the most tackles in the game. Four of James' 12 tackles went for a loss, including a six-yard sack on Bo Nix midway through the second quarter, which led to a Broncos punt three plays later. Derwin is up to 26 total tackles through three regular-season games, which is tied with Kam Curl and Tre'von Moehrig for second most among safeties behind Talanoa Hufanga (27). Up next for James and the Chargers is a Week 4 road clash against the Giants on Sunday, Sept. 28.

James finished third on the team in tackles behind both Daiyan Henley and Tarheeb Still in Monday's blowout win. The 29-year-old has now racked up seven tackles in back-to-back games and will look to keep producing next week's matchup versus Denver.

James recorded seven tackles (five solo) and one tackle for a loss in Friday's 27-21win over the Chiefs.

James was on the field for all 61 defensive plays, one of three Chargers defenders to do so. He also logged two quarterback hits, which is notable considering he had six across all of the 2024 regular season. It was a solid start to the season for James, and he'll remain one of the most important members of the defense moving forward.

James logged 93 tackles (60 solo), including 5.5 sacks, seven pass defenses (including one interception) and one fumble recovery across 16 regular-season games in 2024.

EDGE Analysis

James was seven tackles shy from registering his fourth-straight 100-tackle season (and fifth of his NFL career). However, he did manage to register a career-high 5.5 sacks -- two of which came in Week 17 against the Patriots -- which was fourth-most on the Chargers behind Tuli Tuipulotu (8.5), Bud Dupree (6.0) and Khalil Mack (6.0). James will likely start at safety for the 2025 campaign, but it's unclear whether it'll be Elijah Molden (shin), Marcus Maye (ankle) or someone else that will start alongside James.
