Ford sat out team drills Thursday due to knee tendinitis, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ford clarified that he deals with knee tendinitis during every training camp. While a timetable for his return remains undisclosed, there doesn't currently seem to be reason for much concern. Ford signed a five-year, $87.5 million contract with the 49ers this offseason after having been traded by the Chiefs.

The 49ers have an agreement in place to sign Ford to a five-year, $87.5 million contract when the league year begins Wednesday, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Chiefs traded Ford to the 49ers in exchange for a 2020 second-round pick, and the deal was contingent on a long-term contract being figured out. That's in place now, as Ford will earn a whopping $17.5 million per year. Ford struggled with injuries in the 2017 season, but he recorded double-digit sacks in his last two healthy campaigns. He'll immediately be the 49ers' top pass rusher.

The Chiefs have a deal in place to trade Ford to the 49ers in exchange for a 2020 second-round pick, contingent upon a contract extension, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Ford, but Ford signaled he wanted a long-term deal. He'll have the opportunity to negotiate for that with the 49ers. Those talks are expected to work out, but if they fell through Ford would return to the Chiefs. He's seeking long-term security in a new deal, and he deserves it after posting a double-digit sack total in two of the last three seasons. Ford will be the top edge rusher on the 49ers roster, and he'll likely start opposite Solomon Thomas on the defensive line.

The Chiefs officially extended the franchise tag to Ford on Monday, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With less than 24 hours remaining before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, Ford's fate in the near term is known. He'll have until July 15 to sign the tag, while the Chiefs and his representation can negotiate a long-term contract in the meantime. Ford has tended to the occasional injury in his five-year career, but with two campaigns of double-digit sacks in the last three, he's earned the right for a substantial increase in salary.

Ford is expected to receive the franchise tag Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's worth pointing out the Chiefs will still entertain trade offers for their star pass rusher, particularly with the switch to a 4-3 defense, but it seemed likely Ford was destined for the franchise tag after recording 13 sacks in 2018, the second time he's posted double-digit sacks in the last three years. The former first-round pick would have been one of the premiere pass rushers available on the open market, so it's possible the Chiefs could find a willing trade partner for the 27-year-old.

Ford can become a free agent this offseason but said he would love to stay in Kansas City, Lynn Worthy of the Kansas City Star.
EDGE Analysis
Ford's 2018 season may be best remembered for his crucial offsides penalty in the AFC Championship Game, but he did play a key role in helping the Chiefs get that far, bouncing back from an injury-marred 2017 campaign to pile up 55 tackles (42 solo), 13 sacks and seven forced fumbles in 16 regular-season games. The 2014 first-round pick is a reasonable candidate to receive the franchise tag if the two sides can't work out a long-term contract before the start of the new league year.

Ford racked up a career-high 13 sacks and 55 tackles (42 solo) during the 2018 season.
EDGE Analysis
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Ford's 1,025 defensive snaps also mark a career-best total. Ford flashed the talent that made him a 2014 first-round pick in 2015, but he was limited to just six games in 2017 due to a back injury. Still just 27 and slated to hit the open market, Ford should find plenty of teams knocking at the door if he doesn't sign a contract extension prior free agency opening.

Ford notched seven tackles (three solo) and 0.5 sacks during Sunday's 38-31 loss to the Seahawks.
EDGE Analysis
Ford posted his highest single-game tackle total of the season during Sunday's primetime loss, and now has a career high 12 sacks across 15 games. The former 2014 first-round pick also has six forced fumbles on the year, and has come on as one of the strongest playmakers in Kansas City's defense.

Ford had three tackles (two solo) and a sack in Thursday's 29-28 loss to the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
Ford has a career high 11.5 sacks through 14 games as the Chiefs lead the NFL with 46 sacks. The 27-year-old also has 45 total tackles and six forced fumbles as the Chiefs head to Seattle for Week 16.

Ford recorded six tackles (four solo) and one sack during Sunday's 26-14 win over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Ford played a key role in pressuring rookie quarterback Josh Rosen during the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over Arizona, and logged his eighth sack of the season. The starting linebacker will look to contain the Rams' offense in Week 10.
