Browns WR David Nelson has experienced lingering knee pain in training camp. It's a bad sign for a player nearly 11 months removed from an ACL tear. If Nelson can't get over the hump, the Browns will open the year thin at wideout with Josh Gordon on suspension. Greg Little would be the No. 1 wideout, with Davone Bess in the slot and Travis Benjamin papering over Gordon's "X" position.

Browns activated WR David Nelson (ACL surgery) from the active/PUP list. Nelson tore his right ACL in Week 1 last season and could be limited early in training camp. If he can avoid setbacks, he'll compete Cleveland's No. 4 receiver job.

Browns WR David Nelson (ACL surgery) will open training camp on the active/PUP list. Nelson is 10 months removed from a torn ACL and was a limited participant in OTAs and minicamp. While his ability to come back from a significant injury remains a concern, he should be a strong candidate for the 53-man roster if he can prove he's healthy.

Browns WR David Nelson (knee surgery) isn't participating in this week's voluntary workouts. Nelson is still rehabbing his torn ACL, but should be fine for June's mandatory minicamp. At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Nelson joins Greg Little and Josh Gordon to form one of the biggest receiver trios in the league. With new coach Rob Chudzinski's history of heavily utilizing the tight end, it's a poor bet Nelson will approach his 2011 stat line of 61/658/5 as the fourth option in the offense.

Browns signed WR David Nelson to a one-year contract. Nelson, 26, tore his right ACL in Week 1 last season after compiling a 61/658/10.8/5 stat line in Buffalo's Pistol Spread in 2011. Essentially a tight end at 6-foot-5, 220, Nelson was the Bills' primary slot receiver, although his role in new coach Rob Chudzinski's Cleveland offense may not be determined until training camp. Nelson should be all systems go for offseason workouts. Chudzinski has never made it a habit of heavily involving slot receivers in the passing game, so we don't love the Nelson fit from a fantasy perspective.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are "close" to signing free agent David Nelson. Nelson indicated on Twitter Monday that he's nearing a deal, and the Plain Dealer likely confirmed it with Nelson's agent. The oversized slot receiver is recovering from an ACL tear. He visited Browns headquarters late last week.

Free agent David Nelson will visit the Browns on Thursday. Recovering from a torn ACL, it will be Nelson's first visit of free agency. Two years removed from a 61-catch campaign, Nelson would man the slot for the Browns. Provided he's healthy, he'd be a nice upgrade on Jordan Norwood and Josh Cooper.

Free agent WR David Nelson isn't expecting to get much interest during the first couple weeks of free agency. "It probably will be a lengthy process for me," Nelson said. The Bills informed his agent last month that they weren't going to tender him an offer as a restricted free agent. Nelson began running routes recently, but he's expecting a lean market for his services. He could be a fit for a team looking for a sure-handed slot receiver.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bills will not tender an offer to restricted free agent WR David Nelson. If true, Nelson will become an unrestricted free agent. Nelson is a slot receiver, but Stevie Johnson is expected to have a more prominent role there in 2013. The only other experienced receivers on the roster are second-year speedster T.J. Graham and veteran Brad Smith. Look for Buffalo to be actively searching for a top receiver in the draft and/or free agency.
