David Garrard made it clear Tuesday that he and Matt Moore are rotating first-team quarterback reps evenly at minicamp. Some practices are open for media access; some aren't. It just so happens that reporters have been allowed to watch practice when Garrard has worked as the starter. "You guys (reporters) always get here when I'm working with the ones," Garrard said. "If you come tomorrow, then Matt will be with the ones. And I'm sure the story will be, 'David lost his starting job and now it's Matt.' We're both taking equal reps. You guys have just been here when I've been with the ones."

David Garrard took the first first-team snaps in Dolphins minicamp Tuesday. Just as he did in OTAs. Matt Moore came on second, with No. 8 pick Ryan Tannehill getting the third crack at running with the starters. It's likely just a veteran courtesy for Garrard, who in reality is probably third on the depth chart behind Tannehill and Moore. We'll learn much more in the preseason.

The Palm Beach Post considers Dolphins QB David Garrard a "decent bet" for a roster spot because of his $1 million signing bonus. It's a different tone than the South Florida Sun-Sentinel - which believes Garrard could "very well" win the starting job - is taking. The reality is, Miami signed Garrard more than a month before making Ryan Tannehill the No. 8 pick in the draft, so even his bonus may not be enough to assure him a roster spot.

Dolphins QB David Garrard (back surgery) hasn't reported any setbacks and insists he's 100 percent. Garrard worked as the Dolphins' first-team quarterback Monday and has been a full participant at OTAs. "I'm not worried about any recurrences, because the surgery is healed," he said. "My problem was just back spasms. I haven't had any issues with that." While Garrard has earned praise from the Dolphins coaching staff, he'll be facing long odds of beating out Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill. He obviously won't be assured of a roster spot.

David Garrard was working as the first-team quarterback at Monday's OTAs. The Dolphins are at least giving Garrard a shot to show he still has something left in the tank. Still, his chances of beating out Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill in training camp are slim. Garrard turned 34 in February and has battled chronic back problems for the last few years.

David Garrard was absent from Dolphins OTAs on Tuesday. As was Reggie Bush. Garrard had been attending the "voluntary" workouts before this week, and there's a good chance his absence is excused. Excused or not, however, Garrard can ill afford to miss any time as he battles for a roster spot after sitting out in 2011.

David Garrard's one-year deal with the Dolphins is non-guaranteed. Garrard's history of back problems likely precluded him from any guaranteed offers. If Miami uses its first-round pick on a quarterback, Garrard will have to have a strong preseason to be assured of a roster spot with Matt Moore also in the fold.

A Dolphins team source tells NFL.com's Jeff Darlington David Garrard will get a chance to compete for the starting job "if he's healthy and gets full offseason program under his belt." Garrard, who missed all of 2011 with back issues, declared himself 100 percent healthy in late February, and estimated he was "90 to 95 percent toward being in football shape." He'll presumably be a go for OTAs, but his back problems have become chronic, so it's no guarantee he'll make it to Week 1 healthy. The competition between Garrard and Matt Moore figures to be close, but Moore has the edge after making 12 starts in a Dolphins uniform last season. They'll almost certainly be joined by a draft pick.

The Eagles are reportedly on the list of teams that free agent David Garrard "really likes." There's a sense that the Eagles could be outbid for Garrard, though that may only be the case if the Dolphins stay heavily involved. If Garrard is forced to accept a clear-cut backup job at age 34 and coming off back surgery, the contract isn't going to be prohibitive.
