Updating a previous report, Carpenter has not yet been released by the Bills, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team still has a lot of cap maneuvering to do and people that follow the Bills are well aware that coach Rex Ryan was less than thrilled with Carpenter's kicking last season - namely his league-"leading" six missed extra points - so Carpenter is far from a lock to stay with the team.

Carpenter has been released by the Bills, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
EDGE Analysis
If it wasn't for the new PAT rule Carpenter might still be a Bill, but he somehow missed six of them in 2015. Given his salary as a veteran kicker, his previous strong seasons weren't enough for the cash-strapped Bills, who will likely let big-leg Jordan Gay compete with someone else for the kicking duties in 2016.

Carpenter finished the season with 103 points, connecting on 23 of his 27 field-goal attempts and going 34 of 40 on extra point attempts.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter had the fewest field-goal attempts (27) and worst field-goal percentage (85.2) this season in his three-year stint with the Bills. He also missed six extra point attempts, giving him the second worst percentage in the league. He is under contract through the 2017 season.

Following another shaky performance - which included his fifth missed extra point of the season - coach Rex Ryan says he's sticking with Carpenter based on his solid track record of kicking well in poor weather conditions, BuffaloBills.com reports. "We've got a veteran kicker that you guys know he can kick the conditions," said Ryan on Monday. "Not everybody can do that. I think obviously the one kick you can't kick it better than he kicked it, the 50-yarder. So you know that is fine."
EDGE Analysis
We're not sure Ryan would have been so nice had the Bills lost in part to Carpenter's two missed kicks Sunday. We actually think the coach was a bit harsh on the veteran in the preseason, but now that the season has rolled on we're starting to wonder why Carpenter can't get it right on extra points. With the playoff race so tight, another missed kick could cost the Bills their season. That said, Carpenter has proven he can kick in the nasty Buffalo weather, so there's something to be said about not bringing in a new guy and throwing another variable into the equation, one where the Bills have almost no wiggle room.

Carpenter put up six points in Sunday's win over Houston, going 1-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-4 on extra points. The missed field goal was a 50-yarder that would have given the Bills a lead that may have been tough for the Texans to overcome.
EDGE Analysis
A missed 50-yarder is forgivable, but Carpenter missed an extra point (he hit the left upright and it bounced out) that could have proved costly, the second week in a row he's missed one. He's also missed five of them on the season. His 16-for-20 mark on field goals is serviceable for a team that plays most of its games in an outdoor stadium, but Carpenter may be skating on thin ice with the misses in close games. Coach Rex Ryan was all over him during the preseason, then Carpenter quieted things down with a pretty decent run. It looks like Rex's blood pressure may be a little higher again when evaluating his kicker, so we'll see if the coach has anything to say about it this week.

Carpenter made all three of his field goal attempts in Thursday's win over the Jets, plus an extra point.
EDGE Analysis
The 10 points is a nice way to start your games this week if you used Carpenter ahead of the weekend. He missed an extra point that could have proved costly in what was eventually a close game, but he's been mostly clean lately, making seven field goals in a row. That leaves him at 12 for 14 on the season, which gives him much better job security than when Rex Ryan was picking on him pretty much every day during the preseason.

Carpenter made all three of his field goal attempts and both extra point attempts in Sunday's loss to Jacksonville, good for 11 points.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter had just five points in the two previous weeks combined, so the double-didgit total was good to see. In standard scoring, Carpenter ranks T-19 among kickers with 42 points. The Bills haven't had much luck at quarterback with Tyrod Taylor being injured, while the offense simply hasn't tried many field goals. While Carpenter's job is more secure than it was earlier in the season, note that you can't use him this week as the Bills are on bye following their trip to London.

Carpenter made both of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's win over Tennessee, while he didn't attempt a field goal.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter owners may have gotten a bit of a reprieve when Billy Cundiff was let go earlier in the week, but he's still far from being on Rex Ryan's good side after missing two field goals and an extra point so far. A 130-point scorer in each of his two seasons with the Bills, Carpenter is far off that pace with just 28 points through five games. That puts him 26th in kicker scoring.

Coach Rex Ryan acknowledged Thursday that Carpenter is still likely to be his field goal person this week against the Titans, even though the team signed Billy Cundiff this week, BuffaloBills.com reports. "We had Cundiff take the kickoffs (Thursday)," said Ryan. "And then we had Dan basically do the field goals. But we'll see as it goes on. But that's probably how we're going to end up going in the game like that."
EDGE Analysis
Not exactly a ringing endorsement for Carpenter, who's been fantastic with the Bills in the two seasons prior but got on Ryan's bad side in the preseason and has missed two field goals and an extra point already. We'd be shocked if he didn't have urge job this week while Cundiff handles kickoffs, though Carpenter may be one more bad kick away from looking for work.

Carpenter has some competition for the Bills' kicking job after the team signed Billy Cundiff on Wednesday, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carpenter, who missed a 30-yard field goal this past Sunday against the Giants, is 5 for 7 overall this season, plus he has also missed one of his 12 extra point attempts thus far. At this stage, it's unclear who will be the Bills' kicker in Week 5, with coach Rex Ryan noting Wednesday with regard to the situation, "we'll see who will handle everything Sunday based on how the week goes."
