Head coach Hue Jackson said Lemonier will see more opportunities going forward, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

EDGE Analysis

With Nate Orchard (ankle) out for an extended period of time, Lemonier is due for an uptick in playing time. The 24-year-old linebacker registered three tackles, one sack and a forced fumble while playing only 16 snaps during Sunday's matchup against Miami. It'll be interesting to see how productive he is with an increased workload.

Lemonier -- a former third-round draft pick -- was cut by the 49ers on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

Lemonier was never able to carve out a significant role in San Francisco despite being drafted in the third round and having plenty of opportunities to move up the depth chart. This preseason is possibly the greatest example of his shortcomings, getting cut from the team with a vacant starting outside linebacker spot left by Aaron Lynch (suspension).

Lemonier started with the first-unit defense Saturday, recording four tackles (all solos) and a sack in the preseason loss to Denver.

EDGE Analysis

With one outside linebacker gone (Aldon Smith) and another facing legal troubles of his own (Ahmad Brooks), playing time has suddenly opened up on the edges in San Francisco. Coach Jim Tomsula started both Lemonier and rookie Eli Harold with the first-unit, likely to get a final look at both against a top offense before he decides who will start the year at one of the outside linebacker positions opposite Aaron Lynch. Lemonier figures to have a slight edge over Harold due to his experience and familiarity with the team's defense.

A combination of Lemonier and Dan Skuta will fill in at right outside linebacker while Aldon Smith serves his nine-game suspension, CSN Bay Area reports. The suspension to Smith was handed down Friday, but the plan B of using Skuta and Lemonier has been well known throughout the preseason. Skuta will handle first and second down duties while Lemonier will enter in pass-rushing situations. Neither will hold much value in IDP leagues, but Lemonier will definitely get more opportunities to record sacks throughout the first nine weeks of the season.

Lemonier played with the first-team defense Thursday and recorded a sack in the loss to the Ravens. Lemonier is expected to fill the void at right outside linebacker when Aldon Smith is inevitably handed a suspension. He will come in on pass-rushing downs while Dan Skuta will handle the short-yardage duties.

49ers signed third-round OLB Corey Lemonier to a four-year contract. An explosive edge presence from Auburn, Lemonier could emerge as a speed rusher in nickel and dime packages if he develops quickly as a rookie. If not, he's built to run down kicks on special teams at 6-foot-3, 255 with 4.6-flat wheels.
