Kessler completed 11 of 19 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown during Thursday's preseason finale.
EDGE Analysis
With the Browns choosing to rest DeShone Kizer and Brock Osweiler, Kessler drew the start against the Bears and put up an impressive performance -- albeit against third and fourth stringers. He hit Rannell Hall for a 27-yard score in the second quarter before ultimately being replaced by Kevin Hogan. Kessler began training camp as the starter but soon lost the job after continuous poor play and is currently third on the depth chart.

Kessler will start Thursday's preseason game at Chicago, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Browns have settled on rookie DeShone Kizer as the Week 1 (an beyond) starter, while Brock Osweiler will remain on the sidelined for a second contest in a row. As a result, Kessler will get the nod under center and be followed by Kevin Hogan. In his three other exhibitions, Kessler completed 18 of 27 passes for 145 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Kessler completed 6 of 10 passes for 48 yards during Saturday's victory over the Buccaneers. He also rushed once for five yards.
EDGE Analysis
Kessler replaced DeShone Kizer in the second half of Saturday's game against the Buccaneers but failed to make a substantial impression in limited action. If Brock Osweiler remains on the team, Kessler will seemingly be third on the depth chart, despite showing flashes of adequacy in 2016. The second-year quarterback out of USC will likely see extended snaps during the team's fourth preseason game.

Kessler completed all seven of his passes for 50 yards during Monday's preseason game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Despite a strong showing Monday, Kessler has become the forgotten man in Cleveland. He went from the expected starting quarterback to third-string duties behind DeShone Kizer and Brock Osweiler, although that would quickly change if Osweiler is dealt. Last season Kessler that he's capable of being an NFL starter, but another opportunity to start in Cleveland may be out of the picture.

Kessler completed 5 of 10 passes for 47 yards during Thursday's 20-14 win over the Saints.
EDGE Analysis
With Brock Osweiler's struggles during the first preseason game, Kessler had a big opportunity to jump him on the depth chart and prove he could be the guy. However, he didn't fair much better, and DeShone Kizer -- who turned in a wonderful performance -- actually might've supplanted him as the No. 2 quarterback. Coach Hue Jackson has yet to name a starter against the Giants, but it'd be a surprise if Kessler earned first-team snaps.

Despite opening camp with the first-team offense, Kessler has become a long shot to win the Week 1 starting job, ESPN.com's Pat McManamon reports.
EDGE Analysis
Brock Osweiler was named the starter for the preseason opener, and he responded by turning in strong practices Monday and Tuesday. Meanwhile, DeShone Kizer got most of the second-string reps at Tuesday's practice, dropping Kessler all the way back to the third unit. Kiessler is still slated to be the second QB into the game Thursday against New Orleans, but it sounds like he could fall out of the competition with a poor showing.

Browns coach Hue Jackson said Kessler will open training camp with the first-team offense, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal reports. "Cody will walk out there first, and we'll give him an opportunity there," said Jackson. "Obviously, Brock and DeShone and Kevin [Hogan], all those guys will get reps. This is a competition. Somebody has to walk out there first. We've made a decision it will be Cody.
EDGE Analysis
Kessler is a slight favorite for the Week 1 job after making eight starts last season, but 26-year-old Brock Osweiler and rookie DeShone Kizer will be hot on the second-year quarterback's tail, with all three players likely to get plenty of first-team reps. The Browns finally have some promising parts on offense, but improvement in the passing game largely depends on rapid development from second-year wideout Corey Coleman (shoulder/hamstring) and rookie tight end David Njoku. The team does at least have a strong offensive line along with solid but unspectacular skill-position performers in Kenny Britt, Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson.

Kessler will rep with the first-team offense during full-squad workouts, Scott Petrak of the Chronicle-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite the Browns spending a second-round selection on Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer, Kessler will still get the first crack at locking down the starting job. Kessler showed flashes of potential in his rookie season, most notably a 336-yard showing against the Titans in Week 6. Unless Kizer proves to be a quick study, this should be Kessler's job to lose.

Kessler, along with the other quarterback's on the roster, will compete for the starting job, according to Cleveland.com.
EDGE Analysis
Even though the Browns took DeShone Kizer in the second round of the draft, head coach Hue Jackson made it clear Kessler is still very much in the conversation to be the team's starting quarterback. In his rookie campaign, Kessler completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,380 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions across parts of nine games. He showed flashes of potential at times, but ball security was an issue. On the flip side, his knowledge of the offense should give him a leg up on the job as training camp begins.

Kessler worked this offseason with private quarterbacks coach Tom House on his arm strength and deep-ball accuracy, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kessler also worked on getting rid of the ball faster, after taking 21 sacks and suffering two concussions last season despite attempting only 195 passes in nine games. He did complete 65.6 percent of those passes for 7.1 yards per attempt with six touchdowns and two interceptions, but the sacks and lack of big plays contributed to Cleveland's 0-8 record in his starts. It was still a solid showing for a third-round rookie, and with Robert Griffin and Josh McCown released in the offseason, Kessler could get another shot at the starting job. The Browns are expected to part ways with offseason addition Brock Osweiler, who was acquired along with a draft pick in a trade designed to free up cap space for the Texans. Cleveland does figure to add another quarterback during the upcoming draft, potentially providing Kessler with stiff competition for the starting job.
