Bengals coach Marvin Lewis declined to put a timetable on Cedric Peerman's (ankle) return at his Monday presser. Lewis only called the injury an "ankle sprain," although Peerman exited the stadium following Sunday's win with a walking boot on his foot and using crutches. The signs point toward a potential high ankle sprain. Peerman had been giving the Bengals a big lift as a change-of-pace back. Brian Leonard figures to see a small uptick in snaps moving forward, behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Cedric Peerman exited Sunday's Week 13 game with a second-quarter ankle injury. He was announced as questionable to return. Peerman has added a spark to the Cincy backfield this season as a change-of-pace back, averaging over seven yards per carry. He had four yards on two runs Sunday before leaving injured.

OC Jay Gruden admitted that Cedric Peerman's play has taken the team by surprise. Peerman was considered a strict special teamer until Bernard Scott went down. Since then, he's jumped into the change-of-pace role feet first and excelled. Over the last three games, 7.3 carries for 52.3 yards. "Now that we have (Peerman) as the number two, he's been able to take advantage of his reps," Gruden said. "We had a feeling he would be pretty good but you don't know until you give him those reps."

Bengals OC Jay Gruden wants to increase Cedric Peerman's role in the backfield going forward. "I think he will get more and more as the season goes on. It just depends on how the game goes," Gruden said. "I think it's important to get Cedric some more touches. He's earned that right and gives us a little change of pace." Peerman is a replacement-level talent, but he offers more speed and playmaking ability than starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis. It's yet another reason to be down on Green-Ellis' value for the rest of the season.

Cedric Peerman played zero offensive snaps in the Bengals' Week 9 loss to the Broncos. With Brian Leonard (ribs) healthy, Peerman was relegated to special teams. His eight-catch outburst from Week 6 is a distant, fluky memory.

Bengals RB Cedric Peerman touched the ball just once in Week 7, running for a five-yard touchdown. After last week's fluky eight receptions, Peerman managed just the one offensive touch as the Bengals didn't get a single completion to their running back corps. Peerman has actually shown better burst than BenJarvus Green-Ellis when given chances, but they've come too infrequently. The Bengals have a bye in Week 8, so don't go picking up Peerman in your re-draft league.

Bengals re-signed exclusive rights free agents RB Cedric Peerman, LB Vincent Rey and DT Nick Hayden. Peerman was active 15 times last season, but played primarily on special teams. He carried the ball just three times for 15 yards. He's unlikely to be a part of the Bengals' plan to replace Cedric Benson.
