Jets re-signed S Brodney Pool. The Jets were ready to let Pool walk this summer, but changed their tune after he generated very little interest on the open market. HC Rex Ryan proclaimed Eric Smith the Jets' new starting strong safety on Monday, but Pool should be able to reclaim his job fairly easily.

The Jets will not bring back free agent Brodney Pool, a source tells beat writer Manish Mehta. The Jets likely want to retain the hard-hitting Pool, but just can't afford it. Safety simply isn't a priority, especially after Eric Smith signed a three-year deal late Friday night. Smith is likely to take Pool's place in the starting lineup.
