Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 16 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/17/13 7:00 AM

In a week where so many contenders with so much to gain went down in defeat, we once again look for fantasy players that can be of help to the fantasy owner that is still battling at this late stage in the season. Those in keeper or partial keeper leagues should also be on the lookout. While most owners out of the playoffs have packed it in, take a look at what is out there and see if you can grab a nugget or two, something that will bear fruit next season. We've got a dozen players to talk about this week. As usual, a heavy dose of wide receivers with some running backs and tight ends sprinkled in. A single quarterback also gets a mention this week, there's something for everyone! Solid Pickups RB Jordan Todman, Jacksonville Playing in place of the injured Maurice Jones-Drew, Todman excelled in carrying the entire running load for the Jaguars. He rang up more than 150 yards in total offense, coming on 25 rushes and four catches out of the backfield. Denard Robinson was not even an afterthought, it was the Todman show all day against Buffalo. Jacksonville welcomes the Tennessee Titans and their porous rushing defense, meaning Todman is primed to have another big day if Jones-Drew sits out this game. Even if he's back, Todman figures to have carved out at least a 50-50 split of the rushing load. TE Zach Ertz, Philadelphia We had Ertz listed in our deepest category last week, but after another eye-opening fantasy performance, he makes his way into this week's top category. Though the spike in his stats was because the Eagles abandoned the running game this week, he is getting more action than Brent Celek. Six catches for 57 yards and a touchdown against Minnesota is enough for us to give him a recommended pickup. TE Andrew Quarless, Green Bay With back-to-back good fantasy weeks in the books, Quarless is shaping up to be a viable fantasy option these last few weeks of the season. Repeating the numbers he had the prior week against Atlanta, Quarless put up an identical line of six catches for 66 yards and a score against Dallas. Brandon Bostick was carted off the field with a foot injury, which will solidify the opportunity that Quarless has to excel. On the Radar WR Robert Woods, Buffalo Looking as healthy as he has all season, Woods and E.J. Manuel are clicking once again. Against Jacksonville, Woods caught five passes for 82 yards and a touchdown. He has seen a steady growth in his numbers the past three games. We are confident...

Monday Night Takeaways -- Week 14 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/11/12 5:15 AM

Houston 14, New England 42 Texans It's never a good day when the backups are in the game with six minutes still remaining. In those closing minutes, second string quarterback T.J. Yates nearly outscored starter Matt Scahub. In short, it was a bad day for all Texans players. Patriots We had our first real Brandon Lloyd sighting since week eight. The much maligned wide receiver suddenly showed up with his fourth and fifth touchdowns of the season - although touchdown number two was a fluky fumble recovery in the end zone. I'm still not banking my championship hopes on Lloyd's sporadic production. Aaron Hernandez has fully returned from his ankle injury delivering two touchdowns. Just in time. Tuesday Morning Quick Hits •Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was fired yesterday. Expect a heavier dose of Ray Rice moving forward. •Dwayne Bowe has been diagnosed with two broken ribs. He's likely done for the season. •Neither Michael Vick nor LeSean McCoy has been medically cleared to return. Early indications have both Bryce Brown and Nick Foles once again starting for the Eagles in Week 15. •Dez Bryant is seeing a hand specialist to examine a torn tendon in his finger. If the injury requires surgery, he could be lost for the season. •Ahmad Bradshaw is undergoing a battery of tests on his injured knee. David Wilson has sudden waiver wire appeal. •The Bills have lost Fred Jackson for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. To the bain of head coach Chan Gailey, C.J. Spiller will finally carry the load and be given a chance to equal his RB1 hype. •The extent of Brandon Pettigrew's ankle injury has yet to be determined. Tony Scheffler would assume the starting role with low end TE1 potential. •Eagles tight end Brent Celek has already been ruled out for Week 15. Jason Avant has sudden WR3 appeal for those owners hurting at the position. •Last but not least, RG III has been diagnosed with a "mild sprain." I'd be willing to bet my left arm he won't play next week. Good Luck to all next weekend. Hope to see yeah on the flip side.

Fantasy 411 - Week 15 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/11/12 3:58 AM

The final few weeks of the fantasy football season comes with its own set of challenges. Teams are not only fighting through a litany of injuries, but many teams who find themselves out of contention are quietly beginning the process of preparing for next season. With several young and emerging players getting extended looks setting your fantasy playoff roster can be tougher than ever to fill out. Which situations should you be monitoring as we close the season out? No waiver wire addition will draw more attention than David Wilson this week, and the interest is well warranted. Wilson eclipsed 100 yards and was responsible for three total touchdowns in the Giants thumping of the Saints. Wilson was already receiving an expanded role with Andre Brown landing on injured reserve. As if that opportunity was not enough, we find out that Ahmad Bradshaw is banged up with a knee injury. Owners who have Bradshaw have to cash in the insurance policy with Wilson. A start or two down the stretch would make Wilson a must-own player in all leagues. With the Cowboys pushing to make a run towards the playoffs in the muddled NFC East the ominous word out of Dallas on Monday is that Dez Bryant suffered a finger injury that may require season ending surgery. This season Bryant has focused on beating defensive backs and has developed in to an every week WR1 starter. Teams who have relied on Bryant to get them to this point will need to prepare for his possible absence. Danario Alexander is a solid option that fantasy owners should give consideration to adding to fill in at reveiver. Alexander has always had the talent to perform at a high level and this season he has shown that ability to stay healthy and is getting reps as a starter. Alexander displaced Robert Meachem half way through the season and has been developing a nice rapport with quarterback Philip Rivers. Despite some tougher matchups, Alexander should be added for owners who need depth at receiver. With DeSean Jackson's season over, the Eagles' Jason Avant has had an opportunity to step in to a starting role. Avant does not possess the overall talent that Jackson offers, but he does have reliable hands and veteran savvy. Avant hauled in seven catches for over 100 yards on Sunday against the Buccaneers and will offer your fantasy squad a reliable option over the last several weeks if you find yourself desperate at receiver. Brent Celek has already been ruled out for Week 15 with the lingering ...

Monday Night Takeaway -- Week 13 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/4/12 4:00 AM1 Comment

New York 16, Washington 17 Giants The dual that started in week seven did not disappoint as the two quarterbacks traded blows all game long. On the receiving end for the Giants was Victor Cruz racking up 104 yards on five receptions. Nice to see Cruz stepping up his game just in time for the fantasy playoffs. Martellus Bennett was also a beneficiary catching five of seven targets, for 82 yards and the Giants lone touchdown. With the Saints coming to the Big Apple, Bennett has medium fantasy value as a lower TE1. With Andre Brown out for the season, Ahmad Bradshaw finally got the workload we all projected according to his third round ADP touching the ball 26 times for 116 yards. Bradshaw should be cemented in our lineups as a borderline RB1 next week facing New Orleans. Redskins Robert Griffin III must be touched by fate after his fumble jumped right into the hands of Skins wide receiver Josh Morgan who rolled in for a 13-yard touchdown. Not the greatest of fantasy performances, Griffin was able to set the single season rookie rushing record, the primary reason he remains a solid fantasy starter. The future of the NFL quarterback position looks brighter than ever. After a mid third quarter fumble Mike Shannahan showed his confidence in rookie running back Alfred Morris giving him the ball repeatedly on the very next series. Although Morris will never be considered for rookie of the year, he'd certainly get my vote for best draft value, both NFL and fantasy. Pierre Garcon owners who were patient all season look to have a solid WR2 on their hands. He is a lineup lock now making the championship push. Tuesday Morning Quick Hits •Lions wide receiver Ryan Broyles has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, he's done for the season. Head coach Jim Schwartz says Titus Young will not replace Broyles in the lineup meaning Mike Thomas becomes a player of intrigue. •Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson are expected to return Thursday night, but the timeshare is still unknown. Best to avoid all Raiders running backs. •Chargers left tackle Mike Harris has suffered a high ankle sprain. Best to avoid all Chargers players not named Danario Alexander (low end WR3) this week facing Pittsburgh. •Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says he'll stick with the "hot hand" at running back meaning James Starks is nothing more than a mid-RB3. •McCarthy also stated that Jordy Nelson will be "hard pressed to play" this weekend after suffering a hamstring injury. Find other ...

Preseason Week 3: Monday Morning Takeaways fantasysharks.com Mon 8/27/12 9:06 AM

Philadelphia 27, Cleveland 10 Eagles Coming off a short week very few Eagles starters stayed in the game past the opening two series. With Michael Vick and Mike Kafka still hobbled by injury it was rookie quarterback Nick Foles getting the nod once again in Philly. He would throw an early interception, but atone for his mistake finding Brent Celek for a seven yard touchdown and again locating Deon Lewis for a second touchdown on consecutive drives. Foles has been proficient in two preseason starts with quick, accurate passes over the middle while hitting his intermediate and deep targets with regularity. LeSean McCoy only played the opening two series with little production. He was replaced by Deon Lewis, who saw the majority of action at tailback for the Eagles, putting together a very mediocre outing. Lewis should be viewed as nothing more than McCoy's handcuff. The Eagles were able to completely disrupt the Browns offense with unrelenting pressure. Browns Cleveland rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden began the game with a strong opening drive, immediately halted by a forced fumble. After that Weeden was relatively ineffective and later replaced by Colt McCoy. I'll say this, McCoy is a competitor having greater control of the offense while marching the Browns down the field in the late 3rd quarter for the only touchdown drive. Cleveland may have given up on McCoy to early. Just when we thought Greg Little was the man, it was Josh Gordon's turn totaling three reception for 50 yards including a deep pass down the left sideline. In fact, Coach Shurmur mentioned Gordon by name during his half-time interview. History has proven lesser known wide receivers who lead their team in targets have emerged as viable fantasy starters. My money is on Gordon. Montario Hardesty continues to garner first team carries and goal line work in the prolonged absence of Trent Richardson. In this game Hardesty found very little running room as the Eagles were swarming to the football. Hardesty would also put the ball on the turf which is never endearing to the coaching staff. Brandon Jackson came in for relief and played better finding some running room, also picking up a critical 3rd and 1. A brief applause for the return of Mohammad Massaquoi. He's one tough SOB after suffering another violent shot to the helmet two weeks ago. Atlanta 23, Miami 6 Falcons This game only provided confirmation of our current knowledge; 1) Julio Jones has passed Roddy White as ...
