Weeden was told that Matt Cassel will replace him as the starting quarterback, ESPN's Ed Werder reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weeden's recent opportunity was actually going a bit better than his previous chances in the NFL, until he looked totally incompetent in Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Patriots. Matt Cassel won't necessarily be an upgrade, but the Cowboys probably figure that he also can't be much of a downgrade. Even if Dez Bryant (foot) returns after the bye week, Cassel will be one of the least attractive options at quarterback for a Week 7 matchup with the Giants.

Head coach Jason Garrett said Monday that the Cowboys will evaluate the entire roster during their upcoming Week 6 bye, Marc Sessler of NFL.com reports. "We're gonna evaluate our quarterbacks, we're gonna evaluate our offensive line, we're gonna evaluate our tight ends, our receivers, our running backs, everybody on defense and everybody in the kicking game," Garrett said. "We'll do that this week. We'll make any determinations as the week goes on."
EDGE Analysis
While the Cowboys have problems across the board, as intimated by Garrett's comments, the quarterback situation is poised to dominate the sports radio circuit during the bye week. Weeden has so far posted a 72.4 completion percentage, but explosive plays have been nonexistent since Tony Romo broke his collarbone in Week 2. As evidence, Weeden boasts 7.54 yards per attempt in Romo's stead, culminating in a mark of 4.82 in Sunday's pummeling at the hands of the Patriots. If the Cowboys opt for change, Matt Cassel would be the obvious replacement due to his starting experience, but the aforementioned by will likely delay any decision for some time.

Weeden completed 26-of-39 passes for 188 yards with no touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 30-6 loss to New England. He had three carries for 18 yards.
EDGE Analysis
Weeden looked shaky throughout, and had a tough time sustaining drives. Even in garbage time, he couldn't lead the Cowboys to a touchdown, misfiring to an open Terrance Williams in the end zone from close range on the their last offensive snap of the game. Dallas has a bye next week, so keep an eye on things, as the team could turn to veteran QB Matt Cassel in Week 7.

Weeden completed 16 of 26 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the Saints.
EDGE Analysis
Weeden got 67 of his yards on a deep throw to a wide-open Brice Butler, and he also had some nice gains on the game-tying drive, which ended with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Williams on fourth down. The Cowboys otherwise deployed a very conservative strategy for the second straight week, relying on dump-offs and a mostly ineffective running game. Weeden actually played a decent game, but there's a good reason the Cowboys are limiting his impact, and he probably won't get to truly air it out unless the team falls behind by a wide margin. Of course, such a scenario could come to pass in Week 5, with the 3-0 Patriots traveling to Dallas.

Weeden completed 22-of-26 passes for 232 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 39-28 loss to the Falcons
EDGE Analysis
The Cowboys game plan focused on short passes and the running game and produced 28 first half points, but once the Falcons defense adjusted Weeden couldn't sustain any drives down the stretch. He should get another start next week in New Orleans, but another ineffective showing could open the door for Matt Cassel.

Head coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday that Weeden will start Sunday's game against the Falcons, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
When Tony Romo was diagnosed with a broken clavicle Sunday, it was assumed that Weeden would be under center during Romo's entire recovery period, but the Cowboys acquired Matt Cassel from the Bills on Tuesday, potentially creating competition for Weeden. Indeed, Garrett confirmed as much Wednesday, noting that Cassel was brought in "to compete." While Weeden will get the initial nod in Romo's stead, the Cowboys' quarterback situation may be in flux over the next two months.

Weeden completed all seven of his pass attempts for 73 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-10 win at Philadelphia. He was forced into action because Tony Romo fractured his left clavicle, and is expected to miss 4-to-12 weeks.
EDGE Analysis
A more concrete timeline for Romo should be available soon, but those that play in two-QB leagues or deeper formats, will certainly want to give Weeden a look, although he would have looked more attractive if Dez Bryant (ankle) were available over the next month or two. In any event, Weeden wasn't asked to do much Sunday, as the Cowboys were leading when he entered the game. He did throw a nice 42-yard touchdown strike to Terrance Williams late in the fourth quarter to ice the win. In Week 3, Weeden will take on the Falcons at home.

Weeden (concussion) is active for Sunday's game against the Giants, David Helman of DallasCowboys.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weeden suffered a concussion during the Cowboys' third preseason game, but he never seemed to be in much danger of missing the opener. He'll serve as Tony Romo's backup.

Weeden (head) is probable for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Giants, DallasCowboys.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weeden suffered a concussion during the Cowboys' third preseason game, but he was a full participant in practice throughout the week. As was the case last season, he'll serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Tony Romo.

Weeden completed 18 of 33 passes for 183 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions Sunday against the Cardinals. Weeden got the start in place of the injured Tony Romo (back), and he struggled throughout the game, passing for just 103 yards and no touchdowns until the final drive, which ended on a three-yard touchdown pass to Dez Bryant with 1:08 left in the game to make it 28-17. Romo is dealing with two transverse process fractures in his back, but he will reportedly travel to London for next week's game against the Jaguars, with team owner Jerry Jones saying "we're betting on it" in response to a question of whether Romo will play. If he does play, Weeden will return to the backup role, though one hit to Romo's back and Weeden could be thrown right back onto the field.
