Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave plans to start Berrian Berrian at split end with Percy Harvin at flanker. The Vikings are reportedly one of the teams still in the mix for Malcom Floyd, but are no longer interested in Braylon Edwards. Berrian may end up starting after all. Harvin will be "moved around a lot," so expect to see him in the slot in three-wide sets with Michael Jenkins at flanker.

Bernard Berrian has restructured his contract and is now scheduled to be a free agent after this season. At least he should be motivated in a contract year. Berrian has been downright awful in each of the past two seasons, often looking out of gas and alligator-arming would-be catches. We're stunned the Vikings brought him back, no matter how much his pay cut was. He simply can't play anymore. New offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave had better make sure Percy Harvin or a tight end is his quarterback's first read on virtually every snap, because Berrian and Michael Jenkins make up arguably the worst set of outside receivers in football.

Coach Leslie Frazier suggested the Vikings are "likely done" pursuing wide receivers for now after landing Michael Jenkins. In other words, don't expect to see Malcom Floyd in purple. It's bad news for Vikings fans and Adrian Peterson, who will see plenty of stacked boxes without a viable vertical threat on Minnesota's offense. Bernard Berrian's roster spot is safe for now.

The Vikings still have no plans to release WR Bernard Berrian after signing WR Michael Jenkins on Saturday. The Vikings may not be planning to release Berrian, but they may be forced to if he doesn't agree to restructure his contract. Berrian is perceived as the more dangerous vertical threat than Jenkins, but has actually averaged a full two yards fewer per catch than Jenkins the past two seasons. Set to make $3.9 million, he's grossly overpaid.

Coach Leslie Frazier suggested Friday that Bernard Berrian is in no danger of being released. Frazier expects Berrian to "step up and have a big year" and that the 30-year-old is on on the team "for a reason." That reason was to provide a dangerous vertical threat, but you wouldn't know it from Berrian's 10.0 yards per reception the past two years. It should be noted that Frazier blew similar smoke on Madieu Williams before the safety was dumped.

Bernard Berrian is amenable to restructuring his $3.9 million salary this year. "Until I hear otherwise, I'm just really ready to get back to work," said Berrian. "If we have to cut ties, we have to cut ties." Berrian wants to discuss the matter with his agent before finalizing a decision. The Vikings may just opt to release him instead.

Based on ESPN.com's projections, the Vikings are expected to be roughly $5.1 million over the 2011 salary cap. ESPN's John Clayton had to make a lot of assumptions in these projections, but it appears the Vikings will have to shed salary after the lockout regardless of the detailed cap specifics. Clayton suggests cutting Bernard Berrian, who's due a $3.9 million salary. It seems like a no-brainer move to us. The Vikings could also rework Adrian Peterson's deal. He's due $10.72 million.
