The Jets have granted ILB Bart Scott permission to seek a trade.
He won't find any takers. Scott is a non-rush linebacker with a massive contract who turns 32 before the season, so the most likely outcome is returning to the Jets. They wouldn't cut him with a fully guaranteed $4.2 million base salary. Still, it's the latest sign that Rex Ryan's locker room may be headed for more 2012 turmoil. They'll likely end up bringing back a player they don't want there, and who isn't boneheaded enough to miss the message.

According to SI.com's Tony Pauline, "word from the Combine" is the Giants will have interest in ILB Bart Scott should the Jets release him.
Scott's 2012 salary of $4.2 million is fully guaranteed, so the odds are against the Jets releasing him. Newsday did report in January that Scott won't be back, however. The Giants have a need at middle linebacker and realize it. It sounds like they'll actively try to fill the hole in free agency.

Jets ILB Bart Scott underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair "aggravating bone chips" in his elbow after the season.
Scott's recovery time was set at only "a few weeks," so he should be 100 percent by OTAs. After his role was reduced to early-down running situations only in 2011, Scott's future with the Jets is tenuous. A fully guaranteed $4.2 million salary will likely prevent the team from cutting Scott this year, however.

Jets ILB Bart Scott's 2012 salary of $4.2 million is fully guaranteed.
The Jets guaranteed Scott's first four base salaries when he reworked his six-year, $48 million contract last July. Newsday reported in January that Scott would not be back with New York, but they'd really be biting the bullet to cut him. Now going on age 32, Scott has regressed into a two-down run defender. He's still one of the best in the league at blowing up and redirecting blocks.

Jets ILB's Bart Scott's frustration over diminished playing time was "palpable" over the final couple of months, according to the New York Daily News.
Scott struggled to cover tight ends and running backs, and his body language upon being replaced on the field reportedly didn't sit well with several teammates. Scott was already believed to be on his way out in New York before flipping off a reporter in the locker room on Tuesday.

Citing a source, Newsday reports that ILB Bart Scott will not be back with the Jets in 2012.
Scott is entering his age-32 season and his salary jumps to $5.6 million in 2012. It sounds like he'll be released. Scott's playing time dropped this year as he was removed from the Jets' nickel defense. Pro Football Focus still graded Scott as one of the league's premier run-stopping 3-4 inside 'backers, so his career shouldn't be over. He's just not an every-down player anymore, and needs to be held out of pass-coverage situations.

Jets ILB Bart Scott says he's added eight pounds of muscle this offseason.
"I've had the time to build it the right way [this year] as opposed to having five weeks to lift weights through the offseason program," he explained. "... We were really able to work on things that were specific to me and not things that were specific to a workout program." Scott is coming off perhaps the best year of his career as a run stuffer. Entering his age-31 campaign, Scott will be worth all of his $4.9 million base salary.
