Coach Jay Gruden told John Keim of ESPN.com after Sunday's loss to the Texans that Smith will undergo surgery on his lower right leg.
EDGE Analysis
Specifically, the tibia and fibula were noted. Smith's right leg crumpled under him on a third-quarter sack, and he required an air cast and cart to leave the field. In Smith's place, Colt McCoy completed six of 12 passes for 54 yards and one touchdown while running five times for 35 yards. As the only other QB on the roster, McCoy likely is the top candidate to start Thanksgiving day at Dallas. However, the Redskins are in the market for a free-agent pickup as soon as Monday.

Smith was carted off the field in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Texans with a right ankle injury, ESPN's John Keim reports
EDGE Analysis
We'll await further details, but Smith's injury has the look of a season-ending issue. If that's the case, Colt McCoy will assume Washington's QB duties moving forward, while the team will have to add depth at the position in short order.

Smith was carted off the field during Sunday's game against the Texans with a lower-leg injury.
EDGE Analysis
At first glance this one looked pretty bad and it wouldn't surprise us if Smith broke his ankle. Colt McCoy replaced Smith following his exit from the contest.

Smith completed 19 of 27 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 16-3 win over the Buccaneers. He added 16 yards on two carries.
EDGE Analysis
Who said that Smith can't throw the heater? Washington was hanging tight in a defensive slugfest early in the fourth quarter when Smith scrambled around and finally fit a strike between three defenders to Josh Doctson in the back of the end zone for a six-yard score. Washington's locker room is looking like an infirmary with the likes of receiver Paul Richardson (shoulder) and guards Brandon Scherff (pectoral) and Shawn Lauvao (knee) all out for the season, but Smith's steady, dink-and-dunk approach works for a team looking to hold on to the division with its defense. That doesn't necessarily work for fantasy purposes mind you, as Smith has been held to under 200 yards passing in four of his last five games, scoring multiple touchdowns just once in that span. Look for Washington to continue to look for slow and steady to win the race next Sunday against a middle-of-the-pack Houston pass defense.

Smith's supporting cast took a big hit Monday with the announcement that wide receiver Paul Richardson (shoulder) and starting guards Brandon Scherff (pectoral) and Shawn Lauvao (knee) will miss the rest of the season, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Adding to the injury woes, slot receiver Jamison Crowder (ankle) hasn't played since Week 5 and left tackle Trent Williams (thumb) is expected to miss two or three more games. Williams and Scherff are two of the NFL's best at their respective positions and have played a big role in Adrian Peterson's success through the first half of the season. Smith will now be working with a shell of an NFL offense around him, but he'll at least get to ease into the situation with a favorable Week 10 matchup at Tampa Bay. There's also a distinct possibility the lack of talent forces Washington into more situations requiring a pass-heavy approach, and coach Jay Gruden does have a track record of putting together respectable passing attacks while dealing with numerous injuries.

Smith completed 30 of 46 passes for 306 yards, a touchdown and an interception during Sunday's 38-14 loss to Atlanta. He added a 22-yard run for good measure.
EDGE Analysis
Washington was still scoreless in the final moments of the first half when Smith lofted a two-yard touchdown pass to Josh Doctson. Atlanta responded immediately and Smith was left playing catchup for the rest of the game. Smith has been efficient in his first season in D.C., with just two interceptions on the year, but with 10 total touchdowns 6.8 yards per attempt, he remains a low-end fantasy option. Next Sunday might be Smith's game to shine as Washington travels to a Tampa Bay defense ranked dead last in opponent passer rating.

Smith completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 178 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 20-13 win over the Giants. He also carried three times for 13 yards
EDGE Analysis
Smith finished short of 200 yards passing for the third straight week as his team relied on defense and the running game to grind out a win. He did complete 63 percent of his attempts, including a seven-yard touchdown strike to Adrian Peterson in the first quarter, and he avoided turning the ball over for the third straight game. Smith has helped Washington to first place in the NFC East, but their winning recipe seems to involve a very conservative passing game which has made him a lackluster fantasy option. Large returns aren't necessarily a given even in an inviting matchup with the Falcons next Sunday.

Smith completed 14 of 25 passing attempts for 178 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Cowboys. He added 16 rushing yards on four carries.
EDGE Analysis
Smith completed a season-low 56-percent of his passes Sunday while failing to reach 200 passing yards for the second straight week. The 34-year-old again struggled to find a rhythm but was bailed out by his defense. He'll try to rebound on the road Week 8 against the Giants.

Smith completed 21 of 36 passes for 163 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Redskins' 23-17 win over the Panthers on Sunday. He also rushed six times for 13 yards and fumbled once, but it was recovered.
EDGE Analysis
Smith opened the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis in the first quarter, and he added a two-yard scoring dart to Paul Richardson before the period was over. That was about the extent of the fireworks for the veteran on the day, but his conservative, mistake-free play coupled with solid defense was enough to squeeze out a home victory. Although it was Smith's lowest passing yardage total of the season, it resulted in a solid fantasy line, one that he'll look to build on in a Week 7 divisional showdown against the Cowboys.

Smith completed 23 of 39 passes for 275 yards and an interception in Monday night's 43-19 loss to the Saints. He also rushed twice for seven yards and a touchdown, but lost a fumble as well.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was pretty poor for the majority of Monday's blowout defeat, which included a fourth-down interception that all but ended Washington's hopes of a comeback during the second half. On the next drive, Smith fumbled on another fourth-down attempt. Besides his four-yard touchdown run to end the second quarter, Smith's only other bright spots came on the Redskins' last offensive series, which saw him throw for 77 yards. He'll hope to build on that in Week 6 at home versus the Panthers.
