Covington showcased the full range of his skill set Friday, with the defensive production, in particular, standing out. The 30-year-old's block rate had been way down early in the season, but the Trail Blazers' willingness to use him as a small-ball center more frequently during Jusuf Nurkic's (wrist) 32-game absence helped Covington average 1.4 swats per game during that stretch. Nurkic returned to action and played 18 minutes Friday, so it was encouraging that Covington was still able to thrive as a rim protector.

Covington posted 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), 10 rebounds, two blocked shots, a steal and an assist across 36 minutes in Thursday's 101-93 win over the Pelicans.

The Trail Blazers are not known for their defense, but they would be far worse without Covington as part of their core. His fantasy contribution can be a bit streaky, but Covington's reputation as a stingy defender doesn't always show up in the stat line. Although Jusuf Nurkic's return will shake up things in the frontcourt, Covington should retain his role because a twin-rower setup of Nurkic and Enes Kanter would only be used against teams where there is a size mismatch.

The journeyman forward could be one of the league's streakiest players this season, but he certainly can pop when given the opportunity. His four three-pointers helped to bolster his scoring total in Sunday's loss, and he continued to prove his worth as one of the league's best defenders with excellent secondary numbers. Covington's primary problem is consistency, but the numbers indicate that he's far more dependable against teams with weak frontcourt defenses.

Covington did a little bit of everything, as he continues to play well after a slow start to his first season in Portland. Over the last two games alone, Covington has racked up 36 points, 19 rebounds, eight three-pointers, three assists, four steals and four blocks.

Covington finished Monday's 123-111 win over Charlotte with 21 points (8-11 FG, 5-7 3Pt), 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots across 38 minutes.

Covington hasn't been much of a scorer this season -- he entered Monday averaging only 7.7 points per contest -- but he came through with his highest point total of the season to aid in Monday's victory. His success was largely tied to his stroke from beyond the arc, as Covington tied a season high with five three-pointers on only seven attempts. The veteran didn't sacrifice defense to ascend to greater offensive heights, as he notched a pair of steals and blocks while also pulling down 10 boards for the second straight game.

Covington had zero points (0-5 FG, 0-4 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and one block in 26 minutes during Tuesday's 111-106 loss to the Nuggets.

EDGE Analysis

The 30-year-old had made multiple three-pointers in each of the previous five games, but he was unable to score at all during Tuesday's defeat. It's the first time this season Covington failed to contribute in the scoring column.

Covington scored six points (2-4 FG, 2-3 3Pt) and contributed five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in the Trail Blazers' 132-100 loss to the Suns on Monday.

While Covington had another solid outing of counting stats, it wasn't enough to keep the game close. The veteran picked up two blocks, giving him 16 over the last four games. Covington won't give you consistent scoring, but is a guy that can provide a little bit of everything else which keeps him relevant in fantasy leagues.
