The 23-year-old averaged only 7.0 minutes across his first three appearances for the Celtics, but he'll slide into the starting five Wednesday with Robert Williams (illness) joining Tristan Thompson (COVID-19 protocols) on the inactive list. Wagner should see more playing time but remains a risky fantasy option.

Wagner made his Celtics debut in Boston's 122-114 win over the Bucks on Friday, finishing with three points (1-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt) and five rebounds in 10 minutes.

EDGE Analysis

Head coach Brad Stevens said prior to the game that Wagner was unlikely to play one day after being acquired from Washington, but the Celtics' shortage of healthy centers likely prompted Stevens to change his plans. Wagner wasn't especially effective, posting a minus-8 during his time on the court while missing three of his four shots and committing three turnovers. Once Tristan Thompson (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) is cleared to return, Wagner isn't a sure bet to stick in Stevens' rotation.

Wagner (recently traded) will be in uniform but is not expected to see the court Friday against the Bucks, Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe reports.

Even once Wagner is ready to see the floor with his new team, it's not clear how much he'll actually play. He'll be fighting for minutes with a variety of frontcourt players.

After being dealt from the Wizards to the Bulls, Wagner will be re-routed to the Celtics. Wagner will be fighting for playing time with Grant Williams, Semi Ojeleye, Tristan Thompson and Robert Williams. It seems unlikely Wagner's fantasy value will rise.

Wagner was a DNP-coach's decision in five of his final six games with the Wizards.

Wagner will shift to the bench for the first time since Feb. 12. He's averaging 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 14.7 minutes per game this season and has struggled shooting from the field as of late. Alex Len will get the start in Wagner's place.

Wagner posted six points (2-9 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 22 minutes during Wednesday's 127-112 loss to the Grizzlies.

Wagner's shot has been inconsistent since he joined the starting five on Valentine's Day. The center is scoring 8.6 points per game in 16.3 minutes while shooting just 46.2 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from deep. His past six games have been especially troublesome, with Wagner hitting just 36.1 percent of his field goals. At this point, he's only a viable option in deeper fantasy formats.

Wagner tallied 21 points (8-13 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds and five assists across 25 minutes in a loss to the Clippers on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Wagner bounced back from a trio of disappointing starts, finishing with a season-high 21 points and five dimes while tying his season-best with seven boards. The third-year center came into the contest having scored only 13 combined points over his previous three games, and he has proven difficult to count on throughout the campaign despite the occasional strong performance.

Wagner scored 15 points (6-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-3 FT) and added four steals, three rebounds, one assist and one steal across 24 minutes Monday during the victory over the Rockets.

EDGE Analysis

Wagner and Robin Lopez split duties at the center position as Wagner finished with an edge in minutes, points, steals and blocks. Over his last two games, both starts, Wagner is averaging 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals while playing in 23.0 minutes per game.

Wagner went from out of the rotation into the starting five Sunday, while Alex Len followed the opposite path. Though Wagner's production was solid enough in his first start, head coach Scott Brooks' continued meddling with his centers makes it difficult to count on the 23-year-old to repeat this sort of performance. Even if Wagner's run in the rotation proves longer than his most recent trial (three games), he still may have a tough time pushing past 25 minutes. Robin Lopez's 30-minute outing Jan. 26 against the Rockets was the most playing time that any of the three healthy centers on the roster has received since Thomas Bryant (knee) suffered a season-ending ACL tear just over a month ago.
