Richardson is questionable for Thursday's game against the Heat due to a left foot contusion.
EDGE Analysis
Richardson has averaged 9.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game across his last three appearances, but he's now dealing with a foot injury. If he's held out against Miami, Dennis Schroder and Aaron Nesmith would likely see increased run for the Celtics.

Richardson mustered 12 points (4-7 FG, 4-4 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal in 21 minutes during Friday's 115-83 loss to Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Richardson was one of two bench players to play at least 20 minutes for the Celtics on Friday, and he was perfect from beyond the arc in the blowout loss. The 28-year-old missed Wednesday's season opener due to a migraine but should continue to serve as depth at guard now that he's back to full health.

Richardson (head) is listed as probable for Friday's game against Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
A migraine kept Richardson out of Wednesday's season opener, but he's made progress over the last 24 hours and is on track to debut for the Celtics in their home opener. Coming off of a disappointing 2020-21 season in Dallas, Richardson will provide guard depth while beginning the season as the backup two-guard behind Jaylen Brown.

Richardson (rest) won't play in Wednesday's preseason contests against Orlando.
EDGE Analysis
Richardson joins a hefty list of Celtics that will rest for this one including Dennis Schroder, Marcus Smart and Jayson Tatum. Thus with Richardson out, Aaron Nesmith and Romeo Langford are candidates to see increased run in Wednesday's preseason matchup.

Richardson signed a one-year contract extension with the Celtics on Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Richardson was traded from the Mavs to the Celtics at the end of July, and he'll receive $24 million over the next two seasons as a result of Monday's extension. Richardson was already set to make around $11.6 million in 2021, putting his 2022 salary at $12.4 million. He averaged 21.1 points, 3.3 boards and 2.6 assists over 59 contests a season ago and is expected to come off the bench with Boston during the upcoming campaign.

Richardson has been traded to the Celtics, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Making the trade possible, Richardson exercised his $11.6 million player option for the 2021-22 season. This will be his third team in as many seasons after spending his first four years in Miami. Both his tenures in Philadelphia and Dallas were relatively underwhelming compared to expectations, so the 27-year-old will now look for a fresh start in Boston. It remains to be seen how the Celtics' roster will shape out during free agency, but Richardson will presumably provide depth on the wing as one of the first players off the bench. However, depending on how the roster shakes out, he could end up competing for a starting spot.
