In his six December games, Maxiell has averaged over two blocks per game while averaging eight points and eight boards. However, his upside is capped a bit since coach Lawrence Frank said that the training wheels will come off of Andre Drummond in the future. Maxiell does have some value in deeper leagues, though.

Maxiell made 5-of-10 FGs and 5-of-6 FTs in just under 30 minutes, and he's settling into a productive groove as the starting PF. And as long as Max and Greg Monroe are thriving, Andre Drummond's short-term outlook will remain dim.

Maxiell is playing well, and in particular his screen work has distinguished himself from the rookie Andre Drummond, leading to more minutes. If you're in a 20-team league, give him a look.

As long as Maxiell is starting, he's worth a look in deeper leagues, while Drummond is going to need a lot more minutes than he had tonight to offer any value.

Jason Maxiell started Wednesday's preseason game over Jonas Jerebko, who is also seeing time at small forward for the Pistons. Maxiell had just seven points and three boards in 22 minutes, while Jerebko hit 5-of-7 shots for 10 points and four boards off the bench. Maxiell has limited upside as a starter after averaging seven points, six boards and a block in 42 starts last season, while Jerebko might be tough to own in fantasy leagues if he's coming off the bench. For now, it looks like it may be Maxiell's job to lose, while Charlie Villanueva is also going to steal some power forward minutes in Detroit.

Jason Maxiell "looks in terrific shape," according to Pistons beat writer Keith Langlois. Langlois adds that Maxiell is "as lean as I've ever seen him through upper body and waist." It makes sense that Maxiell would prepare himself well as he's entering a contract season, but we're not expecting him to suddenly make a dramatic jump of any kind, especially given the presence of Andre Drummond.
