Whiteside (calf) amassed 12 points (6-9 FG), nine rebounds, and six blocks over 26 minutes in Saturday's 105-100 victory over the Rockets.
EDGE Analysis
It was a game of extremes for Whiteside in his preseason debut. The third-year pro stuffed opposing shooters throughout his time on the court, totaling six blocks, but also put up a goose egg at the foul line in nine attempts. The abysmal free-throw performance could certainly be at least partially attributed to rustiness, but it's not as if there isn't a precedent for the third-year pro's struggles in this area. Whiteside sunk only half of his attempts from the line in 2014-15, and will certainly need to demonstrate improvement in this area in the coming season to avoid opponents capitalizing on his weakness and drastically limiting his production. On the positive side, Whiteside showed nice touch from the field, and his defense and dominance around the basket was in full display. The Heat are banking on a full breakout campaign from their young center after the vast potential he flashed over 48 games last season.
