Vasquez is still trying to get his legs under him after he was held out for most of last season while recovering from bone spur surgery on his right ankle, and has seen his minutes expand in each successive preseason game. However, the 29-year-old's shooting has been disastrous, as he now sits on a collective 1-for-11 mark from the field and 0-for-7 mark from three-point range through three contests. With his main competition for the top backup job at point guard, rookie Isaiah Whitehead, going 1-for-8 from the field Tuesday, Vasquez still appears in good position to open the regular season in a rotation spot, but his awful preseason may result in coach Kenny Atkinson leaning more heavily on starter Jeremy Lin than expected.
