In many cases, its akin to shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. We are seeing that some teams trash is another teams treasure. Clubs continue to use the amnesty clause to rid themselves of the un-wanted, with the same players welcomed by others through free agency. With most of the premiere players already re-settled, transactions from here to opening day are mostly role players as teams round out their rotations. The Lakers continue to obtain role players to fill the minutes available with the departure of Lamar Odom. Forward Todd Murphy is the latest to join showtime, joining Josh McRoberts as depth behind Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. The Lakers along with the Knicks and Heat have expressed interest in guard Baron Davis who was cut loose by Cleveland this week. Davis, expected to miss eight to ten weeks due to injury, is hoping to sign a new deal by beginning of the week. Another veteran guard capable of contributing is free agent Gilbert Arenas. Not surprisingly the same teams pursuing Davis are interested in Arenas. The losers of the Davis sweepstakes, Lakers, Heat or Knicks, will turn their attention to Agent Zero. The Pacers have shipped guard Brandon Rush to Golden State for forward Loius Amundson. It appears Indiana feels they have enough talent on the perimeter as the Warriors seem to have made out on the face of the deal. Miami is happy with Mario Chalmers distributing the ball to the big three. Chalmers gets a three year deal to stay in South Beach. The Sixers have brought back center Spencer Hawes. The one year, four million dollar deal allows Hawes to become an unrestricted free agent at seasons end. Hawes looked solid in the preseason opener against Washington and will start for Philadelphia in the middle this season. The Celtis brought in a backup big man that should get quality minutes off the bench. Chris Wilcox may need to play some at center with Kevin Garnett...
