Parker (quad) confirmed he's targeting a return in January, Tom Orsborn of San Antonio Express-News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Parker underwent surgery at the beginning of May to address a ruptured left quadriceps and was originally given an estimated timetable for a return of around eight months. This latest update from Parker himself confirms that original belief, as January would mark eight months since his surgery. That will keep Parker sidelined for at least the first few months of the season and with Patty Mills' future with the Spurs unknown as he heads into free agency, Dejounte Murray could find himself in a much larger role to start the 2017-18 campaign. Of course, the Spurs will explore their own options in free agency as well, which could mean some additional bodies are brought on board in the backcourt. Look for Parker's status to be updated over the summer and into training camp, which should give us a better idea if he'll hit his desired return date at the start of January.
