Montero will forego playing for the Dominican Republic national team in FIBA Americas to focus on being ready for the NBA season, the Oregonian reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montero is a 6-7, 185-pound guard who played on the Trail Blazers' summer league team before getting. NBA teams are infatuated with longer wingspans these days, finding height in players' length instead of their standing height, and Montero has a 7-1 wingspan to help make him fit the mold of what most teams want out of wing players in the modern game. The Blazers are interesting this season, because there's no strong read on how exactly the team is going to go about playing all of their duplicative talent, and Montero is most intriguing because he's essentially a complete unknown. We're pegging him as a bench warmer this season, but if the Trail Blazers have significant injuries, there's always a chance Montero could be a daily-games star from time to time.
