Contrary to media accounts in which Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said last week that the Lakers had begun discussions about an extension with Andrew Bynum, his agent said no such talks have been made. "[The discussion] was cordial and it was productive, but it had nothing to do with an extension," said Bynum's agent. According to figures provided by independent collective bargaining agreement expert Larry Coon, Bynum could add three years and $57.1 million to his existing contract if he signed an extension. By comparison, if Bynum re-signed after next season, he could command a maximum five-year, $101.9 million deal. In all likelihood, Bynum will play out this season's trade drama and look to re-sign the $100+ million deal at the end of the year, whether it be with the Lakers or another team as part of a Dwight Howard trade. Stay tuned.
