Vasquez announced Friday that he will not compete in the 2016 Olympics in an effort to stay healthy for the start of the NBA season, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez was limited to just 23 games with the Bucks last season with an ankle injury that required surgery, and he said in a statement that the medical staff feels as though he should be working to be healthy for the NBA season. Even with this, there is optimism that the point guard will be ready for the start of the regular season.

Vasquez has agreed to a one-year contract with the Nets, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez was limited to just 23 appearances for the Bucks last season after undergoing ankle surgery in December, but will hope to nail down a significant role on a Nets team in need of backcourt help. While fellow offseason addition Jeremy Lin will start at point guard, Vasquez projects as Brooklyn's primary backup at the position and should see minutes at shooting guard as well. Through six seasons, Vasquez has averaged 9.0 points and 4.8 assists, but the veteran could benefit from expanded responsibilities with the Nets.

Vasquez went scoreless (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) while tallying four assists and two rebounds in 14 minutes during the Bucks' 109-108 overtime victory versus the 76ers on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez continues to play in a limited role for the Bucks, which is hardly surprising considering his recent return from ankle surgery and the fact that Milwaukee is not fighting for a playoff spot. Through five games since re-joining the team, he is averaging one point, 2.6 assists to 1.4 turnovers, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.4 steals in 12 minutes per contest.

Vasquez (ankle) went scoreless (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt) while contributing three rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 13 minutes during the Bucks' 105-94 win against the Suns on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Making his first appearance following ankle surgery in mid-December, Vasquez was fairly quiet Wednesday. However, Jerryd Bayless suffered a hyperextended knee during the game and was unable to return, leaving his status for Friday in question. Now that Giannis Antetokounmpo is the team's true point guard, Vasquez won't be handling the ball much while Antetokounmpo is on the court. As a result, even if Vasquez were to start on Friday, it might be unrealistic to expect gaudy assist totals.

Vasquez (ankle) is available to play against the Suns Wednesday, Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez had ankle surgery on Dec. 15, and as a result has missed the last 56 games for the Bucks. While he is available to play Wednesday, there is no guarantee that he will actually reach the court. However, it is obviously good news for Vasquez. He still does not hold any value in season or daily formats for the time being.

Vasquez (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Suns, C.F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez has yet to receive medical clearance to return from his ankle injury, but is listed as doubtful rather than out, indicating that there is a chance he could return relatively soon. However, even if he does return it isn't clear that he would have much of a role for the Bucks, with the team giving more minutes at point guard to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Tyler Ennis as the regular season comes to a close.

Vasquez (ankle) went through practice Tuesday, but still hasn't been cleared for game action, Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
With only eight games remaining on the Bucks' schedule, Vasquez, who will become a free agent this offseason, is running out of time to show suitors that he's healthy heading into the summer. Given that he's been limited to only 16 games this season and will turn 30 next January, it's unclear if the rebuilding Bucks have any interest in bringing the veteran back in 2016-17. With that in mind, the team may just choose to shut Vasquez down for the campaign and give more opportunities at point guard to the emerging Giannis Antetokounmpo and second-year player Tyler Ennis.

Vasquez (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against the Hornets, Aron Yohannes of BrewHoop.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez is nearing the finish line of his recovery from right ankle surgery, as he took part in the Bucks' shootaround Friday morning and drew positive remarks from coach Jason Kidd. While the veteran point guard is trending in the right direction, the Bucks have yet to formally clear Vasquez to play in games. He'll likely need to put in a few more full-contact practices before the team green lights his return.

Vasquez (ankle) is yet to be medically cleared, the Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez was present at shootaround Friday morning, but coach Jason Kidd noted that the point guard, who's been out since mid-December, is still not quite ready. "He's doing better," Kidd remarked. "He's making positive steps going forward. I don't know how many games (he could play). We have to start with the process of being medically cleared before he can play in a game." With the Bucks all but out of playoff contention, they don't have a ton of motivation to rush Vasquez back, though Vasquez would likely prefer to play at least a few games before the end of the season, considering he's in the final year of his contract.

Vasquez (ankle) announced via his Twitter account that he returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing ankle surgery in mid-December. "I was excited to be back on the floor today for my 1st team practice since my surgery," Vasquez wrote.
EDGE Analysis
Vasquez remains without a firm timetable to return to game action, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. His return to practice falls in line with his comments last week, when he noted that he was four weeks ahead of schedule in his recovery and vowed to return before the end of the season. The Bucks signed Jared Cunningham to a 10-day contract via the NBA's hardship exception Wednesday, which could be an indication that Vasquez isn't expected to be ready for at least 10 days, as the team would now need to clear a roster spot whenever Vasquez is activated. The easiest way to accomplish that, of course, would be simply letting Cunnignham go after his contract expires.
