Earl Clark started at small forward again for the Cavs on Wednesday but had just eight points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal on 4-of-11 shooting in 26 minutes. He finished the preseason hitting just 16-of-46 shots (34.8 percent) and never scored more than 10 points in a game. It looks like he'll start the season at small forward, but he'll have to play much better than this to hang onto the job.

Earl Clark will rest against the Sixers on Monday. The Cavs still haven't figured out what they're going to do at small forward, so keeping Clark out could suggest he has a leg up on the competition. He's still not worth drafting in most leagues.

Earl Clark continued to struggle with his shot in Friday's preseason win, hitting just 1-of-7 shots for four points, three rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes. Luckily for Clark his competition in C.J. Miles (nine points, 3-of-8 FGs) and Alonzo Gee (DNP) are both known quantities and it's doubtful the Cavs are pushing for either of them to beat out their free agent acquisition. That said, Clark is a bit out of position at SF and he's not going to be given run of the yard -- he needs to start hitting shots or lose his shot at starter's minutes -- and he likely will.

Earl Clark will start at SF for the Cavs on Tuesday, but C.J. Miles will take over at SF in the second half. Mike Brown has proclaimed a position battle at SF. Miles is a more proficient offensive player, and Alonzo Gee (hamstring) is also in the mix, but Clark has been and remains the favorite to win the job.

Mike Brown said the starting small forward job is up for grabs on Friday. Brown said that Earl Clark, Alonzo Gee and C.J. Miles are all in the mix, but that's what he is supposed to say at this time of the year. Clark was brought in on a two-year, $9 million deal and barring a faceplant in camp he is the favorite to lead that group in minutes.

Mike Brown confirmed that he will use Earl Clark as a small forward this season. "His natural position is probably [power forward]," said Brown. "I don't need him to create. We need him to defend, rebound and move that basketball. I want him to catch and shoot." Brown also believes that Clark can defend everyone from shooting guards to centers, which should guarantee him big minutes for a defense-first coach like Brown.

Earl Clark is expected to play small forward for the Cavs. It's notable because Clark won't be battling with No. 1 overall pick and Tristan Thompson for minutes at power forward. Instead, he'll only have to beat out the likes of Alonzo Gee, C.J. Miles and Sergey Karasev for the starting small forward job. It's a battle to watch in camp as Clark showed last year he can be a fantasy asset when getting minutes.

Earl Clark is "very excited" about playing with the Cavs and being with Mike Brown next season. "[Earl] is very excited about the team and being reunited with Coach Brown," Clark's agent Kevin Bradbury said. It's a cliche thing to say, but Clark was barely playing with Mike Brown as the head coach of the Lakers. He played just two minutes combined over six games before the Brown firing, then his season eventually blossomed to get 33.5 minutes per game in February. He's expected to play small forward and his upside will make him worth watching.

Earl Clark has agreed to a two-year, $9 million deal with the Cavaliers. The Cavs were one of the first to show their interest in Clark during this free agency period. Clark gets a nice raise from his $1.2 million from last season and he earned it as one of the pleasant surprises in the league last year. He has a little bit of everything to his game and the Cavs could choose to use him at small forward. He'll be worth watching as a sleeper pick, depending on how Cleveland will use top pick Anthony Bennett.

The Clippers have interest in unrestricted free agent Earl Clark. The Clippers do need a power forward behind Blake Griffin and they could make a run at Clark, assuming he's not looking to score a big deal. Clark was a nice surprise for the Lakers as they dealt with injuries and he showed tremendous versatility. The Cavs have met with Clark and may be the most likely to sign the 25-year-old forward.
