Rashad McCants said tutors wrote his term papers, he rarely went to class for about half his time at the University of North Carolina, and he remained able to play largely because he took bogus classes designed to keep athletes academically eligible, according to ESPN.com. He said advisers and tutors who worked with the basketball program steered him to take the paper classes within the African-American Studies program. McCants was the second-leading scorer in the 2004-05 season on UNC's way to the national title. UNC head coach Roy Williams denied the allegations saying, "With respect to the comments made today, I strongly disagree with what Rashad [McCants] has said. In no way did I know about or do anything close to what he says and I think the players whom I have coached over the years will agree with me."

Rashad McCants has signed in China. He'll play with Foshan. Although he remains on the NBA radar, McCants will have to show a lot more to get a potentially interested team to roll the dice.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, Rashad McCants is being pursued by the Chinese team Jiangsu. This is the same team that currently employs Dan Gadzuric and Mardy Collins. McCants was linked to China back in September, and Stein reports that Jiangsu is the latest team to attempt to convince him to end his "self-imposed exile" and return to basketball.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Bruce Pearl said that he has declined the head coaching position for the Texas Legends in the NBDL. The team was putting on the full-court press to lure him into the fold, but he's decided to pass on the opportunity. Instead, he'll be joining the marketing firm H.T. Hackney Co. in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Rashad McCants is reportedly drawing interested from the Israeli team Maccabi Tel-Aviv. There is no indication whether the interest is mutual, but we're guessing that McCants would jump at a reasonable offer -- he spent last season with the Texas Legends in the D-League, and the NBA is locked out. He has some overseas experience, having played in China between 2009-10.

The Texas Legends D-League team is reportedly hoping to hire Bruce Pearl as their head coach, and he's expected to meet with the media on Wednesday. Pearl, who has yet to accept the job, was famously fired by the University of Tennessee last March for recruiting violations, among other things. Following in the foosteps of Kelvin Sampson, who faced a similar fate with both Oklahoma and Indiana University, Pearl could begin his NBA career this fall, working for Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson. The Legends roster last season included Rashad McCants, Joe Alexander and Sean Williams.
