The Cavaliers are listing Rose (ankle) as out for Friday's game against the Clippers.
This will be the fifth straight absence for Rose, and given there's been no report of the point guard returning to practice, it doesn't seem like he's nearing a return to the floor. Iman Shumpert will start at point guard once again in Rose's absence, but LeBron James is expected to continue handling majority of the floor-leading duties.

Rose will not play Thursday against the Rockets due to continued discomfort in his left ankle, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reports.
Rose has already missed four games this year due to the ailment, and No. 5 will be Thursday's road matchup. Health concerns have already led to a minutes restriction this season, but it's a tough break for the Cavs considering Rose was on a roll, reaching double figures in five straight games. He'll now be a game-time call for Saturday's tilt in Dallas, and in the meantime, Iman Shumpert will take his place in the starting lineup.

The Cavaliers plan to keep Rose on a strict 28-to-31-minute restriction throughout the season, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. "A minute restriction, there's nothing I can do about that. But with me having all these injuries in my past, I'm kind of used to it," Rose said. "But whatever the team sees and the staff sees and they want me to do, that's what I'm going to cooperate with and just go about it the right way."
Rose's health woes have played a large part in his downturn in productivity since his 2010-11 MVP campaign and have already begun to surface in his first season in Cleveland, with the point guard having missed four games due to a left ankle issue. Though Rose is seemingly over the injury and is coming off a season-high 20 points in the Cavs' last game Friday, the organization is intent to keep the veteran fresh for what could be a long postseason run and will avoid overworking him. The Cavaliers won't have as much of a need for Rose to log significant playing time once Isaiah Thomas (hip) is likely back to full strength in the second half, but the playing-time restriction could force LeBron James to log more time at point guard over the next several weeks whenever Rose is off the court.

Rose finished with a season-high 19 points (9-13 FG, 1-2 FT) to go along with four rebounds and one assist across 29 minutes during Wednesday's 124-107 loss to the Pacers.
Rose has played just four games this year due to an ankle injury. His 19-point effort Wednesday pushes his per game average to 15.0 -- 3.0 less than last year's mark. He's not providing much by way of supplementary stats, however. Most notably, he's averaging less than two assists per contest. It remains to be seen if that will come with time and comfort within the Cavaliers' offense.

Rose did not take part in the scrimmage portion of Tuesday's practice but is still expected to play during Wednesday's contest against the Pacers, Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reports.
Holding Rose out of scrimmages Tuesday is likely just a precautionary measure, as he's only played one game since returning from an ankle injury. He posted 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting Sunday, so it appears the ankle isn't giving him too much discomfort.

Rose posted 15 points (6-14 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), three assists and three rebounds across 31 minutes in Sunday's 114-95 loss to the Knicks.
Rose was expected to log 20-30 minutes of play in his return from injury and finished with 31, so he must be feeling like he can shoulder a bigger load moving forward. He's definitely needed at a time when Cleveland is struggling, especially defensively. Don't be surprised if Cleveland begins to utilize the defensive skills of Jae Crowder more, a player that could also improve Rose's assist numbers somewhat. He should be close to 100 percent on Wednesday when the Knicks face the Pacers.
