Parsons confirmed Tuesday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional basketball.
EDGE Analysis
Parsons' announcement comes as little surprise after he failed to find work elsewhere in the NBA after being waived by the Hawks in February 2020. The 33-year-old failed to meet expectations after inking a massive four-year, $94.44 million contract with the Grizzlies in the summer of 2016, with recurring knee injuries and subsequent surgeries no doubt factoring into his demise. Parsons' career was already headed on the downswing before he suffered a traumatic brain injury and a disc herniation when his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver in January 2020. Shams Charania of The Athletic notes that Parsons has since received a substantial settlement for the career-ending injuries he incurred in the accident. Parsons wraps up his nine-year stint in the NBA with averages of 12.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.9 steals in 30.1 minutes per game over 440 regular-season contests with the Rockets, Mavericks, Grizzlies and Hawks.

The Hawks will waive Parsons (concussion) to complete the four-team, 12-player trade that was agreed upon Wednesday between Atlanta, Houston, Denver and Minnesota, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
In the final season of the four-year, $94.44 million deal he inked in the summer of 2016, Parsons appeared in just five games for the Hawks before he was sidelined in January following a serious automobile accident. The veteran forward continues to experience concussion symptoms as a result of the accident, and the head injury coupled with the knee woes he's battled over the past few years could spell an end to his career. At the very least, Parsons isn't expected to play again in 2019-20 before he likely decides on his future in basketball this offseason.

Parsons is still in the first stage of the league's concussion protocol, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Parsons was involved in an automobile accident earlier in the month and is still dealing with the aftereffects, which -- along with his ongoing concussion symptoms -- include whiplash and a cervical disc injury, and could ultimately end his playing career. He has yet to resume any sort of conditioning exercises and should be considered out indefinitely.

Parsons' (concussion) NBA future is unclear following injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier in January, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Parsons' injury woes over the last several years have been well-documented, but until recently, chronic knee issues have been the primary culprit. Last week, Parsons' vehicle was struck by a drunk driver, and the incident resulted in "multiple severe and permanent injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, disc herniation and torn labrum," according to a statement from the law firm Parsons has retained for the case. The Hawks have since included him on the injury report with a concussion, but this latest update implies that he's likely to miss significant time, and there's a belief that his NBA career could be in jeopardy. Per the legal statement: "Chandler was in peak physical condition at the time of the wreck. He is now working with a team of doctors to regain his health, and at this time, his ability to return to play is unclear."

Parsons was involved in a car accident Wednesday and diagnosed with a concussion and whiplash, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Parsons will enter the league's concussion protocol and won't travel with the Hawks to San Antonio for Friday's game. He hasn't played all month despite being healthy, so his upcoming absence shouldn't have an effect on Atlanta's rotation.
