Paul will start at shooting guard in Sunday's game against the Thunder, Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News reports.

With Coach Gregg Popovich resting multiple key players Sunday, he utilize a smaller starting five that moves Danny Green to small forward and Kyle Anderson to power forward. Paul has been largely out of the rotation since scoring 15 points in 25 minutes in a victory over the Bulls, but he should be in line for an extended role Sunday with San Antonio light on depth.

Paul provided 18 points (6-8 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 30 minutes during Monday's 108-94 loss to the Celtics.

Paul posted career highs in scoring, rebounding, made field goals and free throws, and threes. He also matched his career best in blocks. While Paul doesn't figure to be in the mix for too many minutes once Kawhi Leonard (quad) returns, the 26-year-old rookie could carve out a decent role for himself as the fourth or fifth wing on the depth chart behind Leonard, Danny Green, Rudy Gay, and the ageless Manu Ginobili, who will occasionally receive the night off to rest -- as he did on Monday.

Paul tallied five points (2-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block through 21 minutes during Friday's matchup against the Magic.

EDGE Analysis

Paul played a season-high 21 minutes Friday after playing 19 minutes Wednesday. The 26-year-old has seen an increase in minutes since Kawhi Leonard (quadriceps) has been out for the Spurs first five games. Paul will likely move back to the end of the bench when Leonard returns.

EDGE Analysis

Paul has been absent from the NBA since he was waived by the 76ers prior to the start of the 2016 season. The former Illinois star, however, has been very impressive in summer league thus far, averaging 14.3 points per game in Las Vegas and 16.5 points per game in Orlando. As of now, the Spurs have plenty of backcourt depth, so it's likely the team just keeps the guard through training camp and preseason before letting him go.

Paul was officially waived by the 76ers on Monday, Derek Bodner of Philly Mag reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Illinois product showed a few flashes during the preseason but ultimately stood a slim chance of ever making the 15-man team. With Paul out of the picture, the 76ers will keep Nik Stauskas on the roster for the regular season.

Paul (oblique) will be available for Thursday's preseason game against the Wizards.

Paul will face a playing-time restriction of 12 minutes, but as a deep reserve who is on the outside looking in for a roster spot, he may not have even exceeded that total even if fully healthy. The 25-year-old had missed the past two games with a right oblique contusion.

The nature of Paul's injury is unclear, but the Illinois product will sit out Tuesday for the second straight game.
