Harrington announced his retirement from professional basketball Wednesday, ESPN.com reports. The 35-year-old, who was selected out of high school by the Pacers in the 1998 NBA Draft, spent 16 seasons in the league. Harrington ends his career with averages of 13.5 points and 5.6 rebounds over stints with the Pacers, Hawks, Warriors, Knicks, Nuggets, Magic, and Wizards. Despite retiring, Harrington will continue to remain around the NBA as an assistant on the Nuggets' coaching staff.

Harrington will sign a one-year deal to play for Fujian SBS Xunxing Sturgeons of the Chinese Basketball Association this season, SI.com reports. Harrington averaged just 6.6 points in 34 games played for the Wizards last season. The 34-year-old received minimal free agent interest from NBA teams this summer, so he'll follow the path of many aging American players and play in the CBA this year. Should he impress, it's possible Harrington could land with a playoff-bound NBA team following the Chinese season; however, his balky knee could prevent such a scenario.

Al Harrington has recovered from left shoulder surgery and hopes to re-sign with the Wizards as a free agent. Harrington's knees were the biggest issue last season, limiting him to 34 games played, but he's not ready to end his playing career. "I'm just trying to preserve my joints. My new thing is to try to get as light as I can and see what happens," said Harrington, who lost 10 pounds this summer on a vegan diet. While he waits for the free agent market to settle down, Harrington has been volunteering as an assistant coach with the Wizards' Summer League team.

Al Harrington is uncertain as to where he'll end up in free agency, but thinks he could return to the Washington Wizards. The salary cap is expected to rise from $71.75 million to $75 million this summer, so the Wizards may have room to bring back the 34-year-old unrestricted free agent at the veteran's minimum. Harrington missed 47 games during the 2013-14 season due to a knee injury, but was still a core part of the Wizards' locker room and seems to have interest in returning. "I think the core that we have here is great and as many guys as he can keep, I think the better," Harrington said. "That's a great locker room in there. I'm really going to take some time off and then some time throughout the summer, I'll start evaluating if I want to play or maybe do something else."

Al Harrington logged a playoff-high 23 minutes in Sunday's loss, contributing 11 points, six rebounds and three steals off Washington's bench. In the Wizards' previous eight postseason games, Harrington had scored a combined two points in 16 minutes. To the Wizards' chagrin, even big games from Harrington and Drew Gooden (10 points, three blocks) weren't enough to even the series at two games apiece.

Al Harrington scored a season-high 16 points vs. the Heat on Monday with four boards, one assist, one steal and four 3-pointers in 18 minutes. He scored 12 points on Saturday and has played at least 17 minutes in three consecutive games. Harrington looks healthy for the first time since November, but the team still is likely smart enough to keep his minutes down considering how frequently his knees haven't held up.

Al Harrington matched his season high of 15 points in 26 minutes against the Lakers on Friday, adding three boards and two 3-pointers. His 26 minutes were also a season high and the Wizards were happy to adapt to the up-tempo style of the Lakers in tonight's win. Harrington's knees aren't exactly capable of this type of workload on a consistent basis, so it would be a mild surprise to see him do it again even in a favorable matchup against his former team in Denver on Sunday.

Al Harrington recorded eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in Wednesday's win over the Jazz. The short-handed Wizards got the game they needed from Harrington Wednesday night and he even added his first dunk in over four months. "We had the AARP group in there," Coach Randy Wittman said of his lineup that included Harrington, Andre Miller, and Drew Gooden. While Harrington may qualify for the NBA's version of the Blue-plate special, his fantasy value is currently limited to the deepest of leagues.

Al Harrington played 16 minutes off the bench on Thursday with eight points, one board, one assist and one steal. The Wizards needed some help at power forward, but the frail Harrington is not going to be the answer to play more than 20 minutes. Back in November, he played three consecutive games of at least 19 minutes, then he went down on Nov. 12 due to some wear-and-tear issues. He's only an option in very deep leagues because the Wizards seem to have learned their lessons about Other Al's knee.

Al Harrington scored five points and grabbed two rebounds in seven minutes after Nene's knee injury on Sunday, but admitted that his conditioning is a work in progress. "I thought Al gave us a big lift in the second half," said coach Randy Wittman. "He was panting like a dog out there but we got to continue to get him rounded into shape." Kevin Seraphin and Marcin Gortat stand to gain the most if Nene is forced to miss any games, but Harrington is worth watching for deep league owners in need of 3-pointers.
