The good news is that through three games, Nesmith is clearly part of new coach Ime Udoka's current nine-man rotation. The bad news is that through three contests, Nesmith has yet to score despite playing nine minutes per game. The second-year wing will have a chance to break his 0-for-10 shooting slump Monday night in Charlotte.

Nesmith finished Wednesday's preseason loss to the Celtics with 23 points (8-16 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 3-3 FT), four assists, three rebounds, and one steal across 27 minutes.

EDGE Analysis

The 14th overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft was able to show his offensive capabilities with many of the Celtics' starters resting. Nesmith scored efficiently while also showing his playmaking skills which he hadn't been able to do last season as he never reached more than two assists. He is unlikely to see many meaningful minutes in the regular season, but will have another chance to earn a rotational role when the Celtics' play the Heat in their preseason finale on Friday.

Nesmith will come off the bench Saturday against the Timberwolves, Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

Coach Brad Stevens will opt to start Evan Fournier and Semi Ojeleye, sending Nesmith to the bench. Across his past 11 appearances, he's averaged 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds in 19.0 minutes.

Nesmith will start Wednesday's game at Cleveland, Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe reports.

The 21-year-old will make the first start of his NBA career with Kemba Walker (rest), Marcus Smart (calf) and Jaylen Brown (wrist) out for the Celtics. Nesmith has averaged 4.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in 14.1 minutes this season, but he should have an increased role Wednesday.

Nesmith played 19 minutes off the bench and recorded 16 points (5-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal Sunday in the 130-124 loss to the Heat.

Nesmith has now scored 15 or more points in four of his last six outings while adding 5.3 boards per contest over that span. With Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart all missing time recently, the Vandy product has made the most of his time on the floor.

Nesmith had 16 points (6-7 FG, 4-4 3Pt) and four rebounds in Sunday's loss to the Trail Blazers.

Nesmith was coming off of a 16-point effort against the Spurs on Friday, and he's now scored in double figures in the last three games. The rookie was a hyper-efficeint three-point shooter at Vanderbilt and he's up to 38.2 percent from three this season after Sunday's perfect night.

Nesmith posted 15 points (6-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks in 31 minutes during Wednesday's 120-111 win over the Hornets.

EDGE Analysis

Nesmith had been a fringe member of the Boston rotation of late, but he stepped up while Kemba Walker (side) and Marcus Smart (suspension) were out. The rookie established new career highs in minutes, points, rebounds, steals and blocks in what was clearly his best outing of the season. Smart is scheduled to return Friday against the Spurs and Walker could be back, too, so Nesmith can't be counted on to routinely play 30 minutes, even after Wednesday's impressive showing.

Nesmith is averaging 4.8 minutes, 1.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists in five games played in April.

EDGE Analysis

Nesmith has only played eight minutes over the last six games. The rookie averaged 12-plus minutes in every month of the season until April, where he is only averaging 4.8 minutes a game. The Celtics have dealt with injuries all season long, and Nesmith has done an admirable job playing sporadic minutes to fill in whenever necessary. However, with the team now fully healthy and gearing up for a playoff push, Nesmith's services are no longer needed as much.

Nesmith recorded five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt) and two rebounds during Monday's loss to New Orleans.

EDGE Analysis

The rookie made the most of his eight minutes of action Monday, as the forward knocked down a three for the first time in a week while grabbing at least two rebounds for a fourth time over the past six games. Over his last five outings, Nesmith has totaled 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Nesmith played 14 minutes off the bench and added 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 0-2 FT), three rebounds and one steal in Wednesday's loss to the Hawks.

EDGE Analysis

After cracking 20 minutes for six straight games coming into Wednesday's action, Nesmith failed to do so in this one, but that didn't stop the rookie from setting a new career high in scoring. He's now totaled double-digit points in two of the last three games after doing so just once in his first 14 appearances.
