10DJacob Wilson
SS ATH
Thu 8/21/25 11:54 PM

Wilson (forearm) is likely to be activated from the injured list in time for the upcoming series at Seattle, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wilson is hitting .214 (3-for-14) with a home run in four games for Las Vegas. If he doesn't have a setback Thursday, there's a good chance he'll return to the A's lineup Friday.

Ben Rice
C/1B/DH NYY
Thu 8/21/25 11:52 PM

Rice went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a triple and a walk in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Rice tied the game at 1-1 with his second-inning homer. That was his 20th long ball of the year, four of which have come over his last nine games. In that span, he's gone 12-for-34 (.353) with 10 RBI and a 7:10 BB:K. This is an impressive stretch for Rice, who has largely struggled with consistency as a batter this year despite his steady power hitting. He's slashing .243/.338/.489 with 47 RBI, 55 runs scored, three stolen bases, three triples and 21 doubles across 107 contests.

Luis Gil
SP NYY
Thu 8/21/25 11:49 PM

Gil allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision Thursday versus the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Gil continues to walk too many batters, with the five free passes issued Thursday marking a season high. He was once again able to avoid getting hurt by the high number of baserunners, but his pitch count got up early and he was done at 93 pitches (52 strikes). For the season, Gil has a mediocre 4.26 ERA, but it could be worse given his 1.68 WHIP and 17:13 K:BB through 19 innings over four starts. The right-hander's next start is projected to be a favorable home matchup versus the Nationals.

OUTDavid Hamilton
2B/SS BOS
Thu 8/21/25 11:32 PM

Hamilton went 1-for-3 with two walks, one stolen base and two runs scored in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Hamilton was recalled from Triple-A Worcester earlier in the day and delivered a strong effort in his first game back in the big leagues. The infielder is a candidate for playing time in the middle infield, especially with Ceddanne Rafaela in line for more usage in the outfield while Wilyer Abreu (calf) is on the injured list. Hamilton's speed is his best asset -- he has 18 steals on 22 attempts in the majors this season despite slashing a meager .178/.240/.267 across 148 plate appearances.

Alex Bregman
3B BOS
Thu 8/21/25 11:29 PM

Bregman went 3-for-5 with a double and a walk in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Bregman wasn't directly involved in any run production, but he still had a strong game from the No. 2 spot in the order. The third baseman went 0-for-7 with three walks over this week's two-game series versus the Orioles. Bregman has hit well overall, batting .303 with a .926 OPS, 16 home runs, 24 doubles, 52 RBI, 49 runs scored and a stolen base through 82 contests this season.

Roman Anthony
OF/DH BOS
Thu 8/21/25 11:26 PM

Anthony went 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Anthony supplied a game-tying RBI single in the sixth inning and then added a two-run homer for insurance in the ninth. This was his fourth multi-hit effort in the last five games, though he has just two extra-base hits in that span. The rookie outfielder is up to five homers, 26 RBI, 40 runs scored, four stolen bases, 17 doubles and one triple while slashing .286/.405/.448 through 59 contests.

Aroldis Chapman
RP BOS
Thu 8/21/25 11:23 PM

Chapman pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Chapman threw just seven of 14 pitches for strikes, but he retired the heart of the Yankees' order on a popout and two groundouts. Dating back to July 26, Chapman has thrown 8.2 scoreless and hitless innings, posting a 9:2 K:BB over 11 appearances in that span. The closer is at 23 saves in 25 chances this year while maintaining a stellar 1.10 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 69:14 K:BB, numbers in line with or better than what he posted in his prime.

Lucas Giolito
SP BOS
Thu 8/21/25 11:19 PM

Giolito allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito left the game in line for the loss, but the Red Sox were able to tie it up in the sixth inning before rallying for the win. This was the third time in six starts Giolito has fallen short of the five-inning mark. He's allowed 15 runs over 33.2 innings with a 21:14 K:BB in that span. That's not terrible, but the inconsistency is frustrating -- he's allowed just one run in three of those outings. He's now at a 3.72 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 91:37 K:BB through 111.1 innings over 20 starts this season. Giolito will look to rebound in his next start, tentatively projected to be a favorable road matchup in Baltimore.

DTDYandy Díaz
1B/DH TB
Thu 8/21/25 11:08 PM

Diaz has a low-grade hamstring injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Diaz suffered the injury while running the bases in the fifth inning of Thursday's game against the Cardinals. He may be forced to miss Saturday's game -- the Rays are off Friday -- but it doesn't sound as if Diaz has suffered a significant injury.

OUTJesús Sánchez
OF/DH HOU
Thu 8/21/25 11:08 PM

Sanchez went 5-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Sanchez had gone 0-for-27 with nine strikeouts over his previous 10 games. He broke out of the slump in a big way Thursday, though four of his hits were singles. Sanchez is still batting just .215 over 19 games with the Astros, though he has settled into a near-everyday role in the corner outfield, in turning keeping Jose Altuve at second base or designated hitter. Overall, Sanchez is slashing .249/.310/.400 with 10 home runs, 38 RBI, 47 runs scored and nine stolen bases across 105 games between Houston and Miami this season.
