Britton told Yankees manager Aaron Boone following his blown save Thursday against the White Sox that he doesn't "deserve" to pitch in the ninth inning for now, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran had been incredibly reliable for the Yankees since joining the team in 2018, but he has struggled greatly this year, posting a 6.19 ERA and 1.81 WHIP through 19 outings. Thursday's blown save was his second across three appearances, which prompted Britton to approach his manager about taking a step back from closer duties in the absence of Aroldis Chapman (elbow). The Yankees did go to Britton in a save situation in the 10th frame Saturday, but the move was almost out of necessity after Jonathan Loaisiga pitched earlier in the contest and Chad Green blew a save chance in the ninth. Britton picked up a hold against the White Sox, but he threw only four of 14 pitches for strikes, walking two batters and giving up one hit while notching only one out. Loaisiga and Green should be considered the favorites for save opportunities in the short term, but the Yankees are hopeful that Chapman has avoided a serious injury, and he could be back as the team's unquestioned closer this week.

Britton (0-1) blew the save Thursday against the White Sox, allowing two runs on one hit and a walk in one-third of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
After the Yankees had taken an 8-7 lead in the top of the ninth inning, Britton came on to lock things down and quickly retired leadoff hitter Danny Mendick on a groundout. But Seby Zavala worked a walk and Tim Anderson followed with an opposite-field homer to deliver the walk-off win for Chicago. Britton has now blown two of his three save opportunities in the absence of injured closer Aroldis Chapman (elbow). For the season, Britton owns a 6.32 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 15.2 innings of work.

Britton hit a batter in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
Britton needed 16 pitches (10 strikes) to get through the inning, which ended when Carlos Santana grounded into a double play. This was Britton's first save of the season in 17 appearances -- he's also logged seven holds and two blown saves. With Aroldis Chapman (elbow) on the injured list, the closer role is wide open in the Bronx. In addition to Britton, Chad Green (two scoreless innings for the win Wednesday) and Jonathan Loaisiga (scoreless inning, hold) could be candidates to close out games in Chapman's absence.

Britton earned a hold in Thursday's victory versus Seattle by hurling a scoreless inning during which he gave up two hits and struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw inherited a two-run eighth-inning lead and quickly got into trouble by allowing a double and a single to put runners on the corners with one out. Britton got out of the jam, however, by inducing an inning-ending double play. The veteran reliever has notched a hold in each of his past three outings and appears to be settling in after spending much of the campaign on the injured list. He still owns a poor 5.84 ERA and 1.78 WHIP overall on the season, however.

Britton (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Britton had been on the injured list since June 26 due to a left hamstring strain, but he'll be available out of the bullpen beginning Thursday. The southpaw has been limited to just five appearances this season due to his hamstring issue and an offseason elbow procedure, but he could be in the mix for high-leverage chances if Aroldis Chapman continues to struggle during the second half of the year. Britton has posted a 4.15 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 4.1 innings across his five outings in 2021.

The Yankees plan to activate Britton (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Thursday following the All-Star break, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A left hamstring strain has sidelined the reliever since June 26. That and an offseason elbow procedure have limited Britton to five appearances thus far in 2021. He allowed one run in two of the five games and has a 4.15 ERA through 4.1 innings of work. If he is activated Thursday, Britton will be back in time for a critical four-game series against the Red Sox.

Britton (hamstring) faced three batters in live batting practice Thursday, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
EDGE Analysis
Britton threw a bullpen session earlier in the week and has progressed to facing hitters. Though the work wasn't extensive, it was another step toward his return to the mound. Britton has managed only 4.1 innings across five appearances to this point in the campaign.

Britton (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
The bullpen was Britton's first since he went on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain June 26. Manager Aaron Boone indicated Sunday that the left-hander will likely throw another bullpen Tuesday before the team decides how to proceed, per Justin Shackil of Sirius XM. Injuries have limited Britton to only five appearances this season.

Britton (hamstring) could throw a bullpen session as soon as Thursday, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Britton was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Saturday, and the expectation to this point has been that he won't require more than a minimum stay. That stills appears to be the case, as the left-hander's injury was diagnosed as a Grade 1 strain -- the most manageable grade for such strains -- and he was spotted going through stretching and mobility drills on the field Wednesday, per Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated. Britton isn't likely to need a rehab assignment before returning to the Yankees provided that his stay on the IL is indeed a short one.

Britton (hamstring) said Monday that he hadn't received any bad news from his MRI, which he was taking as a good sign, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty said that he would have been told if anything unexpected was going on, so it doesn't appear as though he's dealing with anything worse than a strain. He appears to still be on track for a minimum-length stay on the injured list.
