Rosscup left Tuesday's game with shoulder stiffness, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports. He came in and gave up one run while recording one out in the ninth inning Tuesday, but had to exit because he couldn't get his shoulder loose. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Rosscup gave up one run in one inning against the Nationals on Friday. Rosscup has given up at least one run in four of his last seven appearances. In 5.1 innings during that span, he's given up five runs, nine hits and five walks. Though he has six holds this year, only one has come in those seven games.

Rosscup struck out three of the four batters he faced in a victory over the Reds on Friday. A solo home run hit by Starling Marte on Apr. 20 is one of the only blemishes on Rosscup's record since he was called up a couple of weeks ago. In 6.2 innings, he has a 1.35 ERA, 0.45 WHIP, and 9:1 K:BB ratio.

The Cubs recalled Rosscup from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago reports. Rosscup was called up to take the roster spot of Tommy La Stella (side), who landed on the disabled list. He appeared in 18 games with the Cubs last season but had a rough go of it, giving up 14 earned runs in 13.1 innings out of the bullpen.

Rosscup was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago reports. Rosscup split 2014 between the minors and majors, getting mixed results. In 29 games with Triple-A Iowas, the south paw posted a 2.10 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 38 strikeouts in 30 innings. However, his major league success was minimal, finishing with a 9.45 ERA and 1.95 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 13.1 innings. While he'll begin 2015 back in the minors, Rosscup remains one of the top candidates to grab a spot in the bullpen should someone suffer an injury.

Rosscup pitched a scoreless inning Saturday and is in contention for one of the remaining spots in the bullpen, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports. The Cubs are expected to have seven pitchers in their bullpen, and with Hector Rondon, Pedro Strop, Neil Ramirez, Jason Motte, and either Travis Wood or Edwin Jackson already locked in, there are probably only two spots up for grabs. Rosscup is battling Drake Britton and Phil Coke for a spot from the left side. Coke probably has the inside track at this time, but he's not currently on the 40-man roster, so Rosscup, who has struck out nine and walked three in eight innings this spring, still has a good shot.

Rosscup was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Rosscup will be up to replace Edwin Jackson (lat strain) on the active roster, but the team has yet to announce replacement for Jackson in the rotation. While Rosscup has posted a 2.10 ERA and 11.4 K/9 in 29 appearances with Iowa, he's struggled in seven outings with the big club (7.50 ERA) and likely won't be entrusted with high-leverage innings.

Cubs activated LHP Zach Rosscup from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa. Rosscup has been sidelined since May 14 due to soreness in his left shoulder. He'll continue to function as organizational bullpen depth in the minor leagues, and should get another chance with the Cubs at some point this season.
