Moncada returned to action for Double-A Portland on Saturday after missing five days because of a sprained right ankle. He went 0-for-5 on Saturday while getting his second start of the season at third base.
EDGE Analysis
Boston's top prospect had returned from the ankle injury prior to this recent idle stretch, only to aggravate the injury after just two games. Perhaps he came back a bit too early. At any rate, he'll continue to get reps at third base with the Sea Dogs and further work on his transition to that position in the Arizona Fall League. It's unlikely the Red Sox will be bringing him to Boston during the final weeks of the 2016 season.

Moncada aggravated his ankle injury after returning from a five-game absence, Kevin Thomas of the Portland Press Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moncada returned to action last Thursday and played a couple of games, but hasn't played since Friday. If the organization was tempted to bring Moncada up to Boston this season, the injury makes it unlikely that would happen.

Moncada is likely to be playing third base in the Arizona Fall Leauge, Julian Benbow of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The organization recognizes the athletic ability in Moncada, who made his first start at the hot corner Friday night for Double-A Portland. His initial exposure to baseball in the States has been spent getting him comfortable while playing a position he knows well, before transitioning him to third base, a position of uncertainty at the major league level. Having him start the 2017 season as Boston's Opening Day third baseman might be a reach, but he's close to major-league ready and should see MLB at some point next season.

Moncada (ankle) returned to the lineup Thursday at Double-A Portland, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Boston's top prospect suffered a Grade 1 ankle sprain last week and missed a handful of games, but the injury has healed to the point where he's well enough to return to the lineup. Moncada has slashed .285/.359/.540 with eight home runs and eight steals since being promoted to Double-A.

Moncada will miss about a week of action due to a sprained left ankle, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moncada suffered the injury Friday night while sliding into third base. Boston president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said the organization feels lucky that the injury wasn't worse. "Fortunately, it's not major," Dombrowski said. "They did everything, I don't know if they had MRI or X-rays, but they did all that's necessary and it's definitely a sprain, the lowest type sprain he'll be out about a week."

Moncada left Double-A Portland's game on Friday with an ankle injury, the Portland Press Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Moncada hurt the ankle while sliding into third base, though it doesn't sound serious. "It's a mild strain," Portland manager Carlos Febles said. "He'll be fine in a couple of days."

Moncada has been working out at third base with Double-A Portland, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Red Sox general manager Mike Hazen confirmed that the organization has been working Moncada at third base prior to Sea Dogs' road games. Hazen also said the plan is to continue to introduce Moncada to positions other than second base, with the likelihood he'll get some practice time in the outfield. It's no secret that the pressing needs at the major-league level are third base and left field, so it's natural to see if Moncada can become an option at one of those spots.

Moncada went deep twice on Monday for Double-A Portland, making it the first multi-home run performance of his minor league career.
EDGE Analysis
Moncada, a switch hitter, hit both home runs batting left-handed, putting one somewhere in the Delaware River. Moncada is hitting .329/.415/.683 with seven home runs and 20 RBI in just 21 games at Double-A. He also has seven stolen bases during that span. Expect the Red Sox to continue challenging Moncada, potentially calling him up to Triple-A or the big leagues at some point before the season ends.

Moncada went 2-5 on Sunday, including a single, stolen base and a 405 foot home run on his way to being named MVP of the Futures Game.
EDGE Analysis
Moncada, Rotowire's top-ranked prospect, has been on fire for Double-A Portland leading up to Sunday's Futures Game. Over the past 10 games, he's hitting .350 with four home runs, 11 RBI and four stolen bases. That momentum continued Sunday as he faced off and excelled against some of the best young talent in baseball. There is still a chance Moncada could come up to Boston in 2016, but 2017 seems like a more likely timetable for the 21-year-old phenom.

Moncada went 1-for-5 with an RBI single in his debut for Double-A Portland on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
One year ago at this time, Moncada was struggling at Low-A Greenville (.200 average, .289 OPS), but he's been on a tear since, posting a combined line of .309/.421/.498 with 11 homers and 81 steals (91 attempts) over 117 games at Greenville and High-A Salem. His assignment in Portland is to continue to hone his considerable raw material while sticking at second base, the only position he's played since entering the organization. With second base in Boston blocked by Dustin Pedroia, Moncada's athleticism opens up the possibility of him transitioning to third base or left field, areas where the organization has limited depth.
